M Performance Suspension Height Adjustment Recommendations (Track)

I am installing the MPS tomorrow, and am looking for recommendations regarding ideal height adjustment with focus on track performance over street. I will have the shop corner balance the car and dial-in the following settings:

Alignment Specs (deg):
Front: -2.7, 0.04 total toe in, Rear: -2.0, 0.29 total toe in

Rebound and Compression:
Front: Rebound Damping: 7 clicks open Pressure Stage: 4 clicks open
Front: Rebound Damping: 10 clicks open Pressure Stage: 4 clicks open

My thoughts are that the rear will need to come down a bit more than the front to achieve 50/50 distribution and avoid excessive squatting during braking. I would prefer to not go for the maximum drop in height and avoid issues with parking (curbs), speed bumps and steeper grades coming in/out of my garage, etc.

Appreciate everyone's input!

I have the Dinan HAS, but found 19mm in the rear and 14mm in the front to be about as low as I could go to still fit a 285/35/19 in the rear & achieve good F/R weight balance.

So you went for max lowering while keeping tire fitment in mind. I could probably go even lower as I am running 255/275 combo, but don't want to sacrifice street drive ability. Shop recommended 3/4 drop up front and 1/2 back.

Any good track focused corner balance I’ve seen for the M2 has more drop in the rear than front. Dropping the front more than the rear is just for looks.

Yeah, you could go more. Maybe 25mm rear/20mm front max, but that’s probably getting lower than necessary and will inevitably decrease suspension travel some.

I have 285/35/19 rear too. Just wondering do you get rubbing when the rear compresses? Mine is noisy as hitting the wheel well when it compresses.

Maybe 15mm/20mm F/R or less aggressive 10/15 drop is in order.

I started with a 25mm drop in the rear and it rubbed over bumps. Took it up to 20mm and it was fine around town, but ended up at 17mm so that everything cleared when I have a full trunk and rear passenger.

That said, the Dinan HAS has some of the softest springs out there for aftermarket setups on our cars, so you could probably add a few more mm of drop with other setups.

Yeah, I’d do 20mm rear/14mm front as a max drop for a car that sees the street & track. 17mm/12mm is conservative in my book.

Zack - I also noticed that your rear toe in is more aggressive than what others run. You are at .27 and I have seen some folks complain about handling characteristics of the toe is over .20 out back. Thoughts?

What are their complaints? The car is harder to rotate?

Stock is 0.27 deg total toe in. I’ve tried lower and went back to 0.27 deg. It’s all about personal preference and track layout, but I like a very planted rear when accelerating out of corners, it really ups your confidence.

If I need more rotation in tighter/slower corners, I use my right foot for that.

Thanks for the response Zack. Based on this conversation, I adjusted the desired setup settings as follows:

Alignment Specs (deg):
Front: -2.8, 0.04 total toe in
Rear: -2.0, 0.27 total toe in

Lowering:
Front: 14 mm
Rear: 20 mm

Rebound and Compression:
Front: Rebound Damping: 7 clicks open, Pressure Stage: 4 clicks open
Rear: Rebound Damping: 10 clicks open, Pressure Stage: 4 clicks open

I will try different settings in the future based on handling characteristics and tire wear and keep this thread updated.

Thanks!
