Does the stepped core + high fin density have any negative impact on radiator cooling?

technically 4 washers (2/side). it's very secure now. it may be possible to even use only 1 washer per side if you can find a 3/4" fender washer w/ a small enough hole

Hi Guys,

Allow me to clarify some things about the intercoolers.

1) The mounting bracket is NOT incomplete - is was designed this way to be an open bracket to allow for easier mounting & placement positioning, etc.

2) We had made 8 pre-production units that were sent to our best dealers and race teams for fitment and testing purposes. No one explained to us that they had to use different bolts or washers to install these coolers - This is most likely based on the fact that all of these dealers have their own shops, and a million nuts, bolts, screws, washers around their shops... to them it's not a big deal at all, and this information was never conveyed back to us.. All I was told was that "it fits perfect, and it's super easy to install" (which it does)
- I'm not making excuses on why we didn't have something included in the box, but this is why we didn't think there was this small issue with our packaging.

3) For all the people who are getting one of the 1st 50 intercoolers, and are going to be DIY'ing this.. I'm sorry for the inconvenience of having to go out to the hardware store to pick up 2-4 washers to install this properly. I was originally thinking of asking everyone who needed these washers to email us their addresses, and we would send them out - but I think the best and quickest solution would be to reimburse users for the cost of the washers.. Go ahead and email me a copy of the receipt, and I'll send you the money via PayPal for the cost of the washers if it's a big deal - you can email to info@csfrace.com

4) For all future production, we'll make sure that there is a proper mounting solution included in the box.. I'm leaning toward a spring nut that is adjustable already installed on the brackets, but I might just put some proper washers in the box..

Once again, I'm sorry for the small issue, but I'm glad the OP is experiencing the industry best performance from our intercooler - I think everyone is going to be very happy once it's installed.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

I don't think the impact on radiator cooling is consequential enough to warrant a problem, however this vehicle does experience limp mode issues when driven aggressively on the track (this is already happening without any power modifications like tunes or intercoolers, etc) - CSF has come up with a solution for this already - we have an upgraded oil cooler, and radiator available for the m2 as well.

((mods) - i'm not here selling any products, I came on the forums as a request from a dealer and some of the end users to address these concerns, I'm simply here supporting my dealers who are paid vendors to the forum already - CSF does not sell to the public / end user - Hope this post is not a problem)

What do you plan on going with for the mounting solution? I'll probably go with what you decide to go with!

This is no major issue, at least not to me. But can you define EXACTLY in metric standards what I need to buy?

Is there a good, step-by-step DIY instruction for mounting the IC?

Easiest fix for now, would be to what the OP has suggested and purchase a 3/4 inch washer - these can easily be purchased online here, or at your local hardware store.

A metric oversized washer - might be the best solution
https://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-f...shers/=1be7jnx

The mounting bracket has a 15mm diameter (.6 inches) - so any 3/4 washer (19mm OD) should do the trick.. I'm not for certain as I don't have the screw specs, but I'm confident it's an M6 screw (maybe OP can confirm this, I'm currently traveling)

so an M6 washer with an OD of 18mm would do the trick just fine - available in the link above

CSF Cooling i live close enough to the warehouse if you want to take a look sometime.

i reused the original bolt. it's more of a lag screw with a bigger thread pitch than a normal bolt. you'll need a t25 driver to remove it

as for those looking for a diy, you can use my video as a guide. this video was for the aa unit, but the only difference is the CSF unit needs two additional washers.

Is there any chance you guys have any more of these available since Ontrac lost mine? I was really hoping on getting this installed before my next HPDE this month.

Well I'm happy to report that Ontrac was able to locate my intercooler! They delivered it to the wrong address...

I installed it last night (pretty easy and quick), and am happy to report that it fits on the 328d/N47 diesel too. One thing I thought was interesting is that the pipes connecting to the FMIC on the diesel are rubber, instead of what looks like rigid plastic on the gas models. This made maneuvering their connections onto the FMIC very easy. I did find that it helped to not bolt the FMIC up fully before connecting the pipes.

Some specs:
-Stock FMIC weight: 7.8lbs
-Stock FMIC intake ID/OD: 55.09/61.27mm
-Stock FMIC exit ID/OD: 54.97/61.30mm
-CSF FMIC weight: 25.8lbs
-CSF FMIC intake ID/OD: 52.97/61.29mm
-CSF FMIC exit ID/OD: 52.78/61.28mm

it shouldn't take more than 90 minutes if everything is going crappy. 45 minutes on a smooth install

CSF Cooling is there supposed to be this much play between the intercooler connection and the charge pipe? The intake side of the FMIC doesn't move around this much this easily. Yes the o-ring is installed in the charge pipe properly.

ER and Wagner (I’ve had both) had some play too. I think it’s sealed.
