Biggest negative takeaway from these reviews is...
The electronic steering. Can we please go back to hydraulic steering for all M cars and leave the
e-steering for the rest of the line-up? |

Top Gear says it's good, C&D says it sucks. What are the other reviewers saying?

I think the one of the biggest faults is the not able to turn off the throttle blipping without DSC off. I don't understand what BMW is trying to achieve here.... |

I think some BMW xdrives have to have hydraulic steering due to packaging issues. I believe our 2011 535i xdrives is hydraulic while the rear wheel drive 5 series were electric. All of this is from memory so I could be wrong.

The rev matching thing is particularly weird because it clashes with the whole idea of the M2--back to the future, driver control and connection, fun to drive, 6MT standard, etc.,
Just weird. I've not driven a rev matching car before. What happens if you slow down to a corner, clutch in, then roll over to the throttle as usual? The computer just ignores your own attempt to rev match and rev matches itself, I suppose? |

The EPS critism is generally overstated; several Japanese sports cars (ex. S2000) have had EPS and there were no complaints...

test drove a cayman or boxster (cant remember) that had the rev match feature...cant say i liked it...would def take some getting used to thats for sure...basically need to 'unlearn' old habits..
If memory serves, when i would accidently go to manually rev match, the computer would beat me to it every time... |

Call me a noob, but I cannot tell the difference between an E90 LCI with EPS and an E82 with HPS & Active Steering in terms of "feedback and feel."

As far as I know, DSC is not part of cars of the past. BMW lets you turn off rev matching with DSC off. Boom, back to basics.

Over time, once I got to know the car well and a particular track, I guess I'd feel comfortable enough to turn it all off. But for canyon carving on public roads--maybe not. I don't want to kill somebody because I wanted to rev match on my own and I hit a gravel patch or oil slick at speed and spun out. |

Then, they had no options. Now, when you know you have an option to be safer on public roads, it might be more difficult to pull that particular trigger. I dunno. Depends on the confidence level you can develop. For example, on the Dinan 1M, from what I've read turning off all the nannies on a high speed set of twisties on public roads might be pushing it...

it would be nice to leave the auto rev match in comfort but allow it to be disabled in Sport where you still have stability control but lose the auto rev match. or it would be nice to let you turn it off on its own which I believe you can do on the porsche manuals. |
