Track Day Planner Thread
Hello everyone,
It's the middle of winter so it is time to plan out the track season. What do you have planned for 2019? I live in Germany for now, and I've owned my M2 for just over a month. I'm a track rat who's done many days on Michigan and Ohio tracks in a Mustang, and some seat time in Corvettes also. But now I'm in Europe with an M2. I plan the following for 2019 1) Season opener and first experience with the limits of the M2: May 10 2019 Anneau du Rhin circuit in France. Anyone in Western Germany, France, Switzerland or northern Italy interested in this one?? 2) Hockenheim Ring for sure probably June/July Time frame but no set date yet. Any recommendations? 3) Nurburgring Nordschleife. The mecca. I don't have dates yet, but hoping to avoit turistenfahren and sign up with a HPDE club in July/Aug/Sept timeframe. Hopefully more than once in 2019. Stay safe and hope you have a good season!

Just signed up for the first event of 2019. It will actually be in Belgium at Circuit de Spa Francorchamps. Fast, curvy F1 track with lots of elevation change and good runoff room. April 12th. Hope the weather cooperates!

Signed up for the next day. I will have a long weekend and 2 track days. After going to Spa on Friday I will be at Hockenheimring running the Grand Prix course. Looking forward to both.

Lucky man! I will miss most of my track season as I wait for my car to be delivered.
I am going to Spa next week but in my current car (Focus RS mk3). Did you order teh 2NH brakes and find any race pads? |

Hey Megator, you still have a pretty cool track car! Enjoy Spa, and I really hope you get a break in the weather. Been wet and cool lately.
I have the standard 4 piston 15" brakes, and I think that with some decent pads (PFC 08s on the way) and Castrol RBF fluid It will be enough for the car. I tracked a 2014 Mustang GT which was heavier and faster with stock 14" 4 piston Brembos with good track pads and fluid and braking was solid. M2 is lighter and less powerful so I would hope the standard M2 brakes suffice. Good luck next week, have fun at Spa and let us know how it goes! Good way to pass the time while you await your M2C.

Ok, one and a half weeks left till season opener for me. Spa on the 12th and Hockenheimring on the 15th. I have PFC 08s and Castrol SRF which are going in this weekend. Also winter tires are now off and I'm wondering what the PSS tires will look like on the 16th, but that's a problem for another day.

I would like to use this thread to collect some video from this season. Here is the last session from Hockenheimring today. I did 3 things in no particular order:
1) Start learning hockenheim, my first time here today 2) Got blown out by some pretty spectacular cars 3) Found limits of stock brake fluid. Pedal was getting uncomfortably long and decel was suffering. Castrol SRF is up next.

Also chased an M4 at Hockenheimring. He was faster on the straights as is to be expected.

And here is a lap around Spa. PB was 3:02.1. At Hockenheimring it was 2:08.7
I liked Spa more. My kind of track. Smooth and flowing. Easier to get into a rhythm, and only 3 big brake zones spread over 4.3 miles (7.0 kilometers). Lots of cooling time. Hockenheimring was a lot more work and harder on brakes/tires. Hock is shorter 2.8 miles (4.5 kilometers) and has 5 big brake zones.

Only as part of the total course - I.e they weren’t running drag races per se.
It’s dicey as hell coming into turn 10 which is a 90deg right hander onto the strip... zero traction.. many accidents have been had there! |

Hi, and welcome to the forums! I use a GoPro mounted to the windshield with a suction cup. Simple and cheap, though there are ways to overlay GPS and telemetry data.

Ok, my next date is now set. July 29th at Nurbergring's Nordschleife circuit with schnellschwaben. Can't wait. I am a bit nervous about it. I think I'll start in Sport and learn the track before I switch of completely. Depends on how much balls I find that day.
It's a long track with over 70 corners. I need to learn the line and the track first, so definitely willing to leave the ego back home.

Week and a half left till Nurburgring. I have Castrol SRF in the brakes now, and I will swap pads next weekend. I'm looking forward to it. I have an instructor for the first 45 min (so 4-5 laps) and then it's all me.
I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I have over 15 days at other tracks, but this is the Mecca. I'm really looking forward to it. I think I need about 50 laps before I can try for good lap times. I have 2.5 years to get to 7:55 BTG time. In 12 days I get to start learning the track and set a benchmark lap to improve on over the next 2.5 years. This is how it starts.

Nordschleife was AWESOME today. Great weather, not too hot, damp in the morning then dry the rest of the day 3-4 wrecks, but the track stayed open.
It was my first time there, so new PB is 8:38 BTG. Not great, but I'll take it on first outing. Got by quite a few porsches.

One more video from Nordschleife. Cooling off between hot laps. This track is totally amazing. It was worth moving to Europe for just to drive there. I will be back to improve my performance of course. Likely 2-3 times per year for the next 2 years.
