European Delivery

Fellow members:
I would like to start a poll of how many of us would like to start another European Delivery for the US. I am going to pick up a Euro Spec 530d M pkg Touring at BMW Welt in Munich next month. While there, I asked to speak to someone at BMW Welt about restarting the program. I will document the Euro delivery and submit my interview to the ROUNDEL. Let me know your thoughts.

I always enjoyed when people wrote up long posts on their experience with photos of the process and the places they visited.

The Euro delivery was the dream for taking delivery of my M2, but unfortunately I wasn't able to take advantage of it before they ended the program. The US factory delivery in Spartanburg was a nice runner up and well worth it as a consolation.

For the future, the problem is that I don't really see anything in the line-up or future products that is going to entice me to buy a new BMW from factory like I did with the M2. Of course opinions change over time, but because the F87 was one of the pinnacles of BMW's latest line-up, I don't see that I will be able to take advantage of the program any time soon.

I still would love to see it offered if the right opportunity arose, but I think it's highly unlikely that BMW is going to re-introduce this program.

And even if you wanted a new M2 it is only manufactured in Mexico.

I don't mind that it's made in Mexico at all and I think the quality will be just as good, but I wouldn't take Mexican Delivery without an armed escort vehicle accompanying me .

I think the problem is that with the 2er & 3er now being built in Mexico and all the SUVs built in South Carolina, there simply aren't many BMW models still being built in Germany for US buyers who would choose ED given the chance. That's the main reason I don't expect BMW to restart the ED program for US buyers.

At any rate, for me, BMW has lost the plot when it comes to styling and weight gain. I still love my 2018 M2 5.5 years on from ED - and I plan on keeping it, but in order to do ED again this year (in August), I had to jump ship (P-car of course, because who else still offers ED?!).

ED for my M2C was one of the best experiences of my life - would love to see them bring it back.

Hard to believe it's been six years this month since I did euro delivery! It was an incredible experience and I hope they bring it back, but like others have said I am not sure what models are left that make the trip worth it. I've considered renting from BMW/Welt for European road trips but it's not the same as walking down the stairs to your new car spinning in front of you

Yep - we had similar thoughts at the same time - for me, your post didn't appear until I submitted mine.

Same here! I rem reading your ED trip post a few months before mine - it def helped build my anticipation.

I actually went back in June 2019 and rented an M2C from Sixt (in Munich) for 13 days (spent more money on the rental car than hotels!) and, yea, it was not the same. Not my car, not a stick shift, wasn't motivated to take tons of pics of the car, etc. The paddle shifters offered some enjoyment on the Alpine passes but everywhere else they did nothing for me.

Can't wait to finally do ED again for my 911 Carrera T (stick shift of course!) - just over four months to go!

Like many, Euro Delivery has been a dream, I missed it due to a conflict back in 2011 with my 1M which would have been perfect and I told myself I'd make up for it. Well things changed, bought cars off the lot and was hoping to do it after getting married as a trip and then....it was cut. Also throwing in that I like the BMWs of today less than the last generation, plus many aren't even made in Germany anymore makes it to the point of where I kind of gave up on it, even IF they brought it back. Between design and their //Marketing I'm just less enthusiastic about the brand in general. It sucks because I used to love the brand as a kid and dream of M cars and I just don't feel the same anymore.

this is my story...almost exactly!

as a long-time bimmer owner, i dreamed of finally buying my first (and only) M car through euro delivery...and then the program ended.

that said, i could definitely see myself buying an 8-series convertible at some point in the future...maybe in 10 years i'll finally realize that i'm an old man...and would love to take my first drive through the bavarian alps.

I would do it again If the right model was available. Picking up my wife's M2 in July 2016 was an epic trip.

Talk about long write ups and lots of photos.... https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1286302
