Am I the only one who is second guessing buying one of these right away? Scott has mentioned that there will be more room for power with the motor and a CF roof might be reserved for a progressive model. Also we know the M4 is getting a power bump with the comp. pack. so maybe the same would be true of the M2?

I won't be getting one right away, but not for that reason.
I would prefer to wait until 2-3 years into the build so

A: They can work out the first model year bugs (I am a military helicopter pilot, and I learned a long time ago "never fly the A model anything!")

B: Early adopters will be lucky if they can get these at MSRP without a markup. Make no mistake about it, unless BMW drops the ball completely, this WILL be the hottest release from them in years, so negotiation simply isn't going to happen until the initial buzz wears off.

Also, is it me or does the stance/fender flare in this render not look very different from the regular 2er?
The 1M from the 135 had a significant difference (that improved the proportions dramatically).

IAA Frankfurt September 2015 alongside eDrive Concepts of the G11 and F48.
And MINI Clubman Hybrid Concept.
Well now I'm thoroughly confused (not uncommon!), since just a week ago, you posted this: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showt...3#post16785713

Detroit would have been a touch earlier than thought, anyway. If BMW stays true to form, the first official sighting of the M2 may not be the actual M2, but a near-production concept for the car, leaving the production model for later in 2015 as a 2016 model—perhaps at the Frankfurt Auto Show."

The Frankfurt Motor Show 2015 will likely be organized from Sep 17 to 27, 2015.

But maybe also at the Detroit Auto Show 2016.
The new BMW 7er , new X1 and 3er LCI will be the stars at the IAA in September.
Nothing will overshadow the new 7er on its home territory.
So what happened in the past week? The M2 concept will be at Frankfurt in Sept. 2015, but won't "overshadow" the new 7er launch? Then the M2 production unveiled at Detroit NAIAS January 2016? (As the M235i production at Detroit 2014?)

Are these dealer mark ups on new models a US thing? In the UK a main BMW dealer would be come down on like a tonne of bricks for selling over the OTRP. I have it on firm word from my salesman that my car will be no more than list, and I'm first on the list with a paid deposit 3 months ago.

Normally I would agree but:
1) I really want to join in on the mass European Delivery. I also think it's definitely doable to get ED MSRP if you play your cards right.
2) My E92 is an early build in 2008 and has been absolutely amazing. While I agree it's usually better to wait at least 1 year, I'm hopefully that since the M2 will have a hodgepodge of parts from other models, we'll be OK.

Certain regions or dealerships in the US. My dealership does not mark up any vehicle over MSRP. It's shady business practice.

If you PCD and ED you can pretty much order from any dealer in the US. Makes it much easier to shop prices.

Has anyone ever gotten both the ED and the PCD? Will they entertain that idea or tell you to pack sand?

Also, does the use of the term ED conjure up images of Bob Dole in anyone else's head?

I did not have the information last week as to when a concept will be unveiled but someone came back and told me the IAA.

Ok so we have confirmed that it's next September for the concept.

We can only hope for more spy shots and mules testing in the meantime. How can a wait for a car be so agonising

Strange how you get a bout of spots and sightings then nothing for months.

Also look at the 1M,I have never heard of any issues with that car and it only had a one model year run.

Plenty of people do both ED and PCD, which is what I'd want to do. Especially considering that is at no cost at all, pretty amazing.

There was an earlier thread that said that the M2 is only going to be in production for 3 model years.

Probably a platform change or something coming for the 2-series after that.

Rumored production dates for the M2 (source: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=901686):
  • EU/UK: November 2015 through October 2018
  • US: March 2016 through October 2018
Let's assume it refers to the base M2. Time will tell whether special M2 versions will ever be released someday too.

While I'd like to see that, it wouldn't really affect me. The starting price of a base M2 is right where I'd like to be at.

And now that it seems like LED will be potentially optional, there goes another $2k right there. I'll make my own CSL version in due time, because I know it's only a matter of time before the car isn't so stock anymore.

Sure, I can clear this up. Easily:

The author is an idiot.

Evidence:

- B57 is a diesel. S engines traditionally have model numbers of the mainstream engines they're based on, which is why we should expect S58 or (wouldn't that be fun?) S48, not S57.

- "M performance" models are not products of BMW M GmbH. They never get S engines.

- On the other hand, X4 M40i is indeed planned to get the same engine as M2, the top tune version of N55 I wrote about before.

When I placed my order for my 2008 135, it was in Dec of 2007. No dealer had any real info on it, nor did I even see one in person. I never had a problem with the car being an early production 1st year car. Also In 2000 when I bought my Integra Type R, I had also never seen the car or got a chance to drive prior to taking delivery and I never had a problem with that car either. So that being said, I will continue the tradition of buying first years cars without ever seeing one in person.
