Scott can you confirm any of this??

After having a meeting Yesterday with someone in the know at BMW Product Development I would seriously wait for the M2

The M4 is incredible and I know how you feel after having driven one myself a few times BUT the M2 is going to be seriously good apparently and a lot cheaper at around the 45k mark. so this is what I have been told I won't be held to ransom but here goes

The M2 will actually be available September 2015 on the new 65 plate.
It will not be a Limited Production run like the 1M but will be Limited in Comparison to say a normal 2 series of any spec i.e if they make a shed load of 220d's each week they won't be making a shed load of M2's they will be built in small volumes purely on a supply and demand basis.
It will be getting the Carbon Roof! and the rumors of around the 370bhp mark are correct (374ps apparently)
it will be offered in both DCT and Manual Box form, the rumor of manual only is incorrect.
Apparently it wont get the M3/M4 seats but he couldn't tell me what seats it will get? so god knows on that bit of info

and the biggest shock of all!!!!!! Wait for it!!!!

a 5 door M1 is coming!!! as a direct rival to the Audi RS3 (my reply to that was what? I thought BMW would not use the M1 brand as that is taken by the original M1 Supercar? Well apparently that is all going to change. No date is set for the M1 at this moment in time so its all speculation! But I would imagine at least 2016.

This wasn't from me by the way, it was on a UK 1 series forum.

All of this sounds very possible and exciting. I definitely think September delivery is possible for the first cars.

So looks like most of the rumors are circling in on a starting price of $55k USD then. Excitement level just went down a bit but not surprising as thats pretty much directly in the middle of the m235 and M4.

Starting around the 45k mark...Pounds? Euros? USD?

All this makes me very happy with my decision to stay in the 135 and wait for the M2 rather than laterally transfer (don't think it's much of an upgrade) to M235.

45k Pounds = 72k USD
45k Euros = 57k USD

Most likey not the latter, and the former represents a 7k USD jump over a nearly full loaded M235i.....

I am assuming Euros too, but since the OP is from the UK, it bears asking.
Also, if that is the case, $57k USD starting price is quite a bit higher than most have been expecting.

It's almost never a direct translation from pounds/euros to dollars. There is usually a variation in spec and standard equipment as well as the fact they are entirely different consumer markets.

BMW USA M235i price: $43,100
BMW UK M235i price: £35,795

Current conversion pounds to dollars: 1.61

That would mean the M235i is $57,737. It isn't.

This would be £45k in pounds guys.

As said, its never a direct conversion.

The M3/4 over here are £56k manual and £59k with DCT.

I didn't do a direct conversion. I took the price increase in the uk between 235 and m2 (about 30%) and applied to that USD m235i price to come up with 55k usd.

Not sure how they will make money if they sell them for 45k US, ///Marketing knows that if you sell something better than something else it has to cost more...

please please please bring a 5 door M1 to the US.

I will buy one instantly to keep my 1M company in the garage.

have no interest in the M2 as I already have a 1M----but a 5 door M1 would make for the ultimate family car!

Eh. You'd really be interested in a FWD M car? (unless they give it AWD - that could be interesting)

Ah, my assumption was that this would be based on the next gen 1-series (the UK FWD version), not the F20. If it's F20-based, then I'm all ears, but I thought the F20 was not going to be brought to the US in any form.

+1. I know it'll never happen for the USA market, but that would be the car I'd want the most right now (assuming it has same front end as the 2er and not current 1er). Would be perfect for what I need since they decided not to give us an M3 Touring.

Here is my response to your statement.

It will not be a Limited Production run like the 1M but will be Limited in Comparison to say a normal 2 series of any spec i.e if they make a shed load of 220d's each week they won't be making a shed load of M2's they will be built in small volumes purely on a supply and demand basis.

I am not sure that they are correct with the launch date. Production does not start until November unless they are talking about the sole example for the distributor. In which every global distributor receives an example for training and marketing ahead of launch.
The power is in the region of that amount some are far too opportunistic and optimistic when it comes to figures. It is important to leave room to manoeuvre especially for progression.
The car will be less limited than before , whether it is a good thing or bad thing depends. It will be extremely popular though.

It will be getting the Carbon Roof! and the rumors of around the 370bhp mark are correct (374ps apparently)

I have seen sketches of a car with the Carbon roof. But I can neither confirm or deny at this stage whether it will feature or held over for the progressive stage.

it will be offered in both DCT and Manual Box form, the rumor of manual only is incorrect.
Apparently it wont get the M3/M4 seats but he couldn't tell me what seats it will get? so god knows on that bit of info

Both transmissions will be offered to widen its market and appeal.
It will have special seats yes. But news of that will come later.

and the biggest shock of all!!!!!!

I have not seen an actual example but a sketch of the 5dr it has been under discussion previously. It does remain to be seen if they have committed to such a car which will be constrained to Europe and other markets but not the USA.
The standard M135i is a brilliant car but then this could be the progressive M140i model but an M1 hatch will be a brilliant strategic move. Especially in Europe where the competition offers popular hatchback performance models.

This wasn't from me by the way, it was on a UK 1 series forum.
Here is something that can be answered.
