The best i've gotten was a 29.1 MPG over a 130 mile stretch. This was 90% highway driving in Sport mode. In the city, it was Sport +. The tank was a quarter way through. So realistically, I think you can get 300 miles out of the tank. Again, this is mostly highway miles. If you have questions, let me know.

The first thing to consider is which transmission you have. The DCT in the M2 will get better fuel economy than a stick, it's higher geared on the highway. The ZF8 would allow my M235i to sip gas on a long trip ..like over 30 mpg on a tank at 75 mph. My M2C averaged 19.8 mpg over the first 10k DD miles.

You should not get an M2C if MPG is a concern.
If I so much as look at my full gas gauge and clutch into 1st, it becomes empty. My lawn mower has better MPG. |

Nick,
I've done nearly 19k miles in my M2C with DCT in 9 months. My driving is mainly motorway with a few A and B roads. Genuinely you will be lucky to get 300 miles from a tank driving very sedately. It's more like 260 - 270 miles regularly. MPG is around 24 - 25 mpg in winter and perhaps 28mpg summer if you're careful. The small fuel tank is also a pain as I'm filling up twice per week. Great and fun car to do the mileage in but you need to be fully prepared for the fuel, tyres and servicing costs of doing high mileage in the M2C. If you need to know anything else just let me know.

I actually do well on the highway, around 28 mpg. City driving yields 18 at best. Between all, I'm about 20 average.
Also, the last trip was ~200 miles round trip interstate but 10 miles of autocross dropped my average from 28 down to 20!

I just went for a spin in the M at lunch and saw that I've put in about 140 miles since the last fill-up, and the tank shows 1/3 remaining. Yikes!!

Really helpful replies dudes, thanks.
I hear what peoples are saying about not buying a car like this for MPG, that is not quite the point, I'm buying it for fun and the occasional track day, I just don't have the budgets to buy a car that does that and a car that does my business miles. So I'm just trying to make sure with the increased finance costs, that the fuel costs in the worst case are still affordable. And using my man maths calculator, I think that it should just about work. Thanks again for everyones input. |

I owned an F31 340i, and on a motorway run I'd easily get 40mpg at about 75mph on cruise with the ZF8.
In the M2C I've never seen better than 28mpg with the DCT. And the manual is worse. Typical use on the 340? About 28/30mpg. Similar in the M2C? 20/21mpg.

If you can justify it or close to justify it and as long as no-one you care about suffers do it! This is probably my 20th BMW and considering I'm a very fortunate man with a great fleet this car is just so addictive, the look, the drive everything is so together. So many cars are vanilla and this is definitely not..... maybe espresso flavour!.
I have as posted washed and given the M2C a week off to drive the X5m which is a late 2017 with 18k miles and a very clean example but today driving the x, even with exhaust flaps jammed open giving the v8 throb I missed the M2C. Buying an M2C is like when you reach THAT age and you work out what it's for, nothing else matters apart from IT! Short old go around in the grand scheme of things so I went for it! And sooooo glad I did |

Every now and then, I'll say "Let me put her in efficiency mode and soft steering, crank up the tunes and chill for a bit". Then I realize that's boring and the engine sounds better than the music, and Efficiency mode sucks, and I hit the mute button and go back to S or S+. Then life is good again |

That said, sometimes i'll turn TCS all the way off when i'm just piddling around town in eco mode, just to get a little better feel for the thing without the rev matching. It makes driving so much more involving and honestly, i'm not worried about crashing it if i'm just tooling around the city at less than half throttle. Might be fun for you, coming from something a little more involving like an S2K. (Congrats btw on picking up the car!) I also kind of enjoy the increased lag that comes with Eco mode sometimes. The car feels less fast, but you really get to feel that boost build which can be fun (or terrifying if youre my GF) |
