It will be nice if they gave this to ALL BMW owners. My salesperson talked me out of getting it Apple Carplay when I bought my 2018.

Apple car play allows you to use Waze or Google Maps for navigation which are constantly updated vs the more sporadic nature of BMW map updates. Alerts for construction, cops, red light and speed traps

Disappointed it's not available for free for my 18 f80 but it's not the end of the world.

So I got the email but carplay still not showing up in my car. Thus I emailed ConnectedDrive customer service and this is the response.

Quote:
"Your vehicle, VIN ***************, is among those identified to be automatically extended such that your vehicle’s Apple CarPlay Compatibility will be reactivated and you will not be required to purchase any additional subscription for Apple CarPlay Compatibility. There is no action for you to take. Due to the large number of vehicles affected, please allow 8-10 weeks for the change to be reflected on your account."
Geez.....

If my 2018 F80 had apple car play included on the sticker for $300, can I ask for a partial refund?

Update:

So, I bought the $300 subscription back in October. I contacted BMW customer care about getting a refund a couple weeks ago and just a couple days ago they processed a partial refund of $220. While this is better than nothing I am wondering if I should push for the remaining $80.

Of course!

Should be a FULL refund right?

Looks like the constant criticism has gotten to them... makes sense, as it was honestly a bit rude in a way to charge for a feature that many <$20k cars come with standard on cars that cost anywhere for $40k-$200k, hopefully the connection issues also start being solved.

I wonder if refunds will go to those who paid for it?
This is great news!

Waze is a huge benefit, but I also love the texting feature with CarPlay. It will tell you when you get a text and read it to you, then ask if you'd like to respond which you can do verbally without ever taking your eyes off the road. As for negatives the Bluetooth CarPlay does have some inherent lag in pretty much everything it does. I'm not a huge fan of the music play back via wireless CarPlay and I find that the local hard drive has much better sound quality.

Same here. Seems to be a BMWUSA PR stunt to appease critics and only catering to new 2019-20 customers.

Anyone else still expected to pay the $300 lifetime robbery fee for CarPlay.

Like its been mentioned numerous times in this thread, they're slowly rolling it out to everyone with the correct iDrive Version.

Seriously guys.

It's a big company and a big world.

It's coming to all cars that have carplay provisioning in connected drive.

Be patient and in the meantime golfer a hobby.

If you read the language of the official communication to those who have had it enabled it clearly calls out they are changing the "subscription policy". For those of us bought pre-subscription when it was an option it seems clear we are SOL until we complain to bmw enough... but by the time they think about dealing with us.... most of us will be on our next lease and getting it free haha

Ok sounds good! I did call the helpdesk at Connected Drive but they were clueless here in Sweden. It's not a subscription model here, instead a one-time payment of 300€. Oh well...
