Cigarette lighter
Hey all, just picked up a 2020 M2C new. Noticed that the center tray does not have a cigarette lighter attachment inside the center tray. Should it have one? Wanted to check before sending a message to the dealer.

The socket isn't there, or it's just missing the actual lighter?

Correct. Only the 12V socket with the plastic cap as pictured.

It's a safety feature. Smoking is a distraction while driving and interferes with the drivers ability to maximize the cars performance.

It should have a cap but not an actual lighter unless you got the smoker's package.

Thanks all. The socket is there, but nothing covering it (like the plastic cap pictured above).
I'm all for no smoking, just want to make sure nothing is missing, even if a minor item |

the "smoker's package" is necessary to get the lighter and an ashtray that fits in the cupholder. You can look up your vin at www.mdecoder.com to see if it says you should have had it (option S441A)

The ashtray is awesome for coins. Best 20 bucks spent when I ordered the smokers package.

I bought my car used, and it was missing. Luckily a friend lifted one from a BMW rental that fit just perfect. The one up front has to be short to fit under the sliding door. Mine says 12V on it, but I'm unable to find a picture of it online.

I'm just going to ask the dealer to replace it when it goes in for the break-in service

The smoker's package was a free option. At least it was when I ordered my 2018. Maybe it was included and not needed to be separately checked off back then. I don't remember. Not sure why any were ordered without it.
I used to use my ash tray for coins. But since getting the MPE, I would have no center cup holders left if I continued that. So then I moved it to the door bottle holder. But then my door jingled every time I opened it. Which attracted homeless people looking for spare change. Diving a BMW sports car added that attention as is. So I removed the ash tray completely and now throw my change out the window when I drive by our local reservoir. Last edited by Anthony1s; 03-28-2020 at 12:35 AM.. |

Very true and I don't carry any coins nor much folding cash either. However it shits me that there is a minimum spend on parking meters for PayPass so just carry a few coins in the car for that.

For what it's worth the location of the socket is a pain since most usb charging adapters are too tall and don't allow you to close the sliding cover when not in use. For me it's a semi-useless socket anyhow since I like to keep the sliding cover closed. |
