Instrument Cluster Replacement

Dropped car off for service last Saturday for battery issue.
They called today to let me know instrument cluster needs replacement.
It was causing the battery drain.
I half don't believe it...but that's just my gut.
Took delivery last February and car has 4000 miles.
Maybe with more miles it would have surfaced earlier.

Anyway - cluster delivery from Germany eta 3.15.20

I'd love to have mine replaced... has tiny little hairline scratches here and there and they drive me nuts.

Why would you not believe the dealer? Have they randomly replace items on your car in the past?

I believe them.

I've had issues with cars in the past where I felt like the dealer wasn't 100% sure what the issue was, and that resulted in "fixing" things that didn't solve the problem.
Looking @ you VW.

I've had nothing but good experiences with this dealer.
Between the month in their 740 and now 3 weeks in their X5 they take good care of me.

I fully understand that. Enjoy those loaners. I'm hoping for a good one this Friday when I take my car in for service.

At least they are trying to fix the problem. I give them that!

80% of the BMW dealers would say this to you. 'Sir you do not drive the car enough that is why you battery is getting drained'.

I always get treated right during service with a nice loaner. However, at my 1200 mile service, I decided to be a nerd for the first time and waited for my baby to get serviced. The service only takes 60-90 minutes, so this time to avoid the M sitting by herself or being taken for joy rides, I took her right home after she was done. Yeah, I know...

I am also having the interior pieces swapped, so they are quoting me 5 hours. Just another city shopping spree for the wife while I wait for my car.

I will be leaving explicit instructions that my car is not to leave the dealer parking lot and is not to be washed.

Im hoping this doesn't happen to mine but if I had to replace I would see if I could go with the analog cluster. Im assuming we could swap for the older one. I feel like these digital ones will last maybe 5 years. I don't want to deal with the scratches and cost of replacing. Not worth it.

Pretty sure the mileage isn't kept in the cluster but the OBC. Probably just a matter of recoding the new dash to the OBC.

I believe they can bring the mileage up with your key as well (or at least they can on my old E46).

You usually have to just to get out in traffic there. lol
Funny thing, every time I have been at the dealer there have been a few loud Mustangs racing back and forth in front of the dealer.

Updating this in case anyone else ever runs into the issue.
Dropped car off on 2/29.
Was told on 3/2 it would need new cluster and it would be 3 weeks to get the part from Germany.
Dealer called today to update that part was not going to ship, case was opened, and no ETA other than it would be 10 days if it shipped today.
Hoping to drive car this summer.

Yea I've got their X5 40i.
It's all good.

I'm going to ask about expedited order processing/shipping when I talk to them tomorrow.
With this pandemic situation I'm expecting the worst. Mega delayed part shipping.
And that's okay.
It's not my daily so I have some patience I could normally never demonstrate.

Finally got my car back.
Really missed it.

Not a moment too late either - PA shutting everything down. I assume a car service department should be considered essential but maybe not.

My SA dropped off a BMW AGM/Lithium charger at my house for the trouble.
Great service.

Everything is shutting down at a crazy pace. I'm supposed to take delivery on the 27th and the questions now are; will my SA still be employed; will the dealer even be open; will I be able to actual make the transaction (they are talking about putting the island of Montreal un quarantine...)... crazy times.

My local dealership just shut down sales. Service is still open, but not sales. The other local dealership hasn't shut down sales, but I'd assume will be by the end of the today (an actual LEO-enforced stay at home order is pending...I don't think car salesfolk will risk getting a misdemeanor charge to sell someone a car...but you never know).
