I've seen this in many photos, the outermost edges of the spoiler not being directly adhered to the body work.

I bought an OEM spoiler that came pre-applied with tape, it was a bit thinner than I expected and even with good panel prep the middle portion of the spoiler is easy to wiggle about and the edges do not stay stuck down and are slightly proud of the body which irks me.

If I had my time again i'd add more of my own 3M autotape to it.

Anyone else with this problem? Do I have any recourse to ask for a new part?


Other than that love the way it looks and makes the car look more like a machine now if that makes sense!

Mine has lifted as well in these areas although not quite at much as yours. I just accept it as nobody will really notice.

Applying adhesive promoter to the surface beforehand helps to keep issues like that from happening

I used that which is why mine is a little better but still I would say if your edges aren't lifted it's more that you got a good spoiler than the install. It appears there's just enough slight variance in the manufacturing of these CF pieces that it's natural for the edges to lift on some of these. I've seen a few local cars that are worse than mine and they were done by dealerships while I did my own.

Tbh the bottom of the spoiler was not completely level, for the premium paid I'm disappointed.

I think someone could remove it if malicious fairly easily, might have to rip it off one day and out my own tape on.

There is sweet spot to the location of the spoiler but the edges may still lift. I ended up bonding mine and no issues even at 155mph.

Yeh as there are no instructions I did it by eye. Maybe I needed to advance it further rearwards I don't know. I don't see it coming off in normal driving and certainly won't be hitting 155mph!

Unless you use Betalink it's virtually impossible to get the very edges flat down. It's more by design, as there's a recessed channel which the tape runs in, the channel is cut a couple of mm in from the outer edge of the whole spoiler, and at the very tips/end it's even a couple more mm in from the edges. The channel means you dint see the tape and the spoiler sits flush to the paintwork. If you were to put tape along the very edges (where there is no channel) of both corners you would raise the spoiler slightly off the paint work and it wouldn't fit flush.
I've fitted a couple myself now and just rip off the thin tape that comes fitted, apply better VHB 3M tape and do it as close the edge as possible.

What’s the best CF spoiler to fit?
Seems to be quite a few for sale, and I really want one that isn’t to big, but a bit bigger then the OE one.

I did consider this, if tape went right to the edge then the leading edge of the spoiler would never sit flat, unless it were recessed like you say.

Unfortunately the trunk has a slight lip to it and the spoiler needs to sit perfectly on top to be able to correct this problem. I had this problem on my m235 (same trunk, same spoiler). When I removed it to place on my m2 I bought extra 3m tape to apply and made sure to use painters tape to seat it correctly. That thing is never coming off, but sits completely flush now.

So actually its not correct positioning as you said yourself you still had to put extra tape on to keep it down flush? I tried lots of permutations and the outermost sides of the spoiler never went flat against the boot lid.
