The small resonator mid-pipe on the stock exhaust is for drone reduction.

Brings up a question I had. What is the diameter of the stock & MPE? Are they different?

Of the pipes or the can. The can is larger...but the exhaust really does not go thru the can like it did on the stocker...just by it now.

On the stocker it went in the can and out the right side if valve was closed then out both sides when valve is open. On the MPE it passed by the sides of the can and there is a pipe on both sided that allows the gasses to resonate in the can for tone. Then when you activate the valves they open on both sides and it is almost a full open exhaust

I was thinking of doing that to mine to try to cut down on the drone; wish I had kept my stock resonator...

I measured my MPE and what's left of my stock exhaust; main pipe is 3" then splits to 2".

From factory the exhaust is one piece. As spare parts, components of the whole piece are available separately so it need to be cut and a clamp installed to make the connection. Same thing on VWs.

So both systems are the same diameter on the main pipe?

Thank you.

The stock system sounds good but too bad they didn’t just make the MPE the stock system. Even if they had to increase the msrp by $1k.

How many of those with the MPE like the Bluetooth feature or rather it used the stock valve control?

I purchased the one that is recommended in the Bimmercode thread and the one that Bimmercode recommends, Vgate iCar 2 (Wi-Fi). It works ok.....

Great write up with pics. Regarding the clamp that connects the stock pipe to the MPE... is the a certain direction you clocked it before tightening the two bolts?

Im having issues with my port installed MPE where it would backout about 1/2 inch after running it hard on the tracks. I'm guessing it clamping force has a specific direction and it timing it would depend on the cutout slots in the MPE piping??

Clamp pictured. That 1/2 inch causes the unbent portion of the pipe to hit that brace on the driveshaft tunnel.

Kind of off topic, but why is there no DIY specific section on the forum? Would be great to have a collection of these kind of posts.

No clocking needed. Just align it so the bolts are on the side (obviously). Perhaps it’s a torque issue? Torque setting is printed on a new clamp. It’s 28 N.m if i recall (unsure).

28nm? Wow never looked at the clamp. The install docs state 40 so i did mine to 40. That was that same as the torque on the F80/82 MPE pipes also so assumed it was correct. Well I know now it is not going anywhere

It could be 38... would have to jack the car up and look to be sure. I'm just too lazy to do it

Same here...... will wait till I need to do something else. Mine is the newer single bolt clamp and slip over interface not the wider 2 bolt that was used on the butted pipes

Great DIY write up, thanks for the details and the photos! Do you mind explaining what you mean by "put the car to sleep"

Also, I'm thinking this is the cable running up into the trunk but I'm sure there was some kind of rubber plug to seal the hole right? Did it need to be modified?
