i guess TECHNICALLY it's not cheating. Cheating as in they didn't publish fake time that was not real.

Either way fwd cars in my life are limited to daily drivers / family hauler / grocery getter, etc. I've actually rented a CTR on Turo before buying my LCI M2. If the road is anything but perfect, you can't put the power down at all. It's just too much power going to front wheels with limited traction on acceleration. Hops and skips everywhere, even with the LSD

LOL... ok so look at Team Schirmer they run M3 on the ring. You mean to tell me if you strip out an M3 it won't beat the 7 28 posted by GTS. The comp is 20 seconds faster than the M3 I am pretty sure of that.

So a honda that is stripped, likely caged and semi slicked w more power than production will not go faster than fully loaded full m3. LOL.. If that is not cheating then steroids are allowed in the olympics.

As a former owner of an e90 M3, F10 M5, and F82M4 I can tell you that CTR is one of the best vehicles available today. I sold my M4 to buy the Civic. I briefly considered selling the CTR for an M3CS or a 911T (I have car ADD). After driving them back to back the CTR is just as quick on the street and way more enjoyable to drive.

The CTR was also the Evo 2018 Track Car of the Year even taking down the McLaren 570S among others (the GT3 was the real winner, but since it was not "really" available at the time they disqualified it). There is a reason CTR's are still going for over sticker price. Say whatever you want about looks, it just shows you are the new target market for the M division. Looks over function, badge over performance. BMW (and other brands like Porsche and Mercedes) have gotten their asses kicked by the likes of Chevrolet with the Z28/ZL1 1LE, Honda with the Civic Type R, etc. The good thing from this is that they have been forced to respond with cars like the new F90 M5 which is a fantastic drivers car. Still too isolated for me (thought about buying one for my wife), but way better than my F10 was.
Not sure why you're jumping to the conclusion this is about badges - I'm not talking badges. (But that is another point - BMW owner's too snobby for Honduh, Honda owners thinking BMW badge is too pretentious - it goes both ways.)

FWD vs. RWD is what I was getting at. No way in the world would I drive a high-strung FWD car, especially for fun. FWIW, I've had FWD cars with ~300whp... not fun.

We'll focus on this portion of your post, to mitigate a circular debate on badge wars.

The CTR does a great job of putting the power down and with better rubber comes the ability to manage that power more effectively, permitting you plan on surpassing factory power levels.

Personally, I'm impressed that a FWD Civic is under a second slower than an M2C - I think that's quite respectable.

To be honest, this and all the other F8x laptimes show how poorly done the rear suspension / grip is in these cars. You shouldn't be able to get this close with a FWD car that has significantly less power.

WRONG. Look at the track. The guy in the video even said 1 second is a lot on this track, especially being that the CTR has an advantage on a tight short track like this. Take it to a decently fast track and CTR will fall behind very quickly.

You are all missing a big thing here, the Type R is roughly 500 lbs lighter. 300HP on a car thatís 3100lbs will make any car fun as hell.

I have had 3 F80s/82 since they came out, e92 M3, E46 M3 and F87, a 991.2 Carrera, 718 cayman S, Mustang GT, and now the Type R, and if you can get past the ďHondaĒ stereotypes, and get over your own ego, the Type R is the most satisfying car I have had this far.

I'm not sure why you guys are hating the Honda Civic Type R so much. It's $36k USD new (30k less than an M2C) and probably way more economical and reliable to track(tires/brakes/maintenance) then a BMW.
Give it some respect for what it is. I saw the car in person and looking at the spartan interior and build approach it's clear that honda made this car a no frills track day special.

This is what BMW used to do with the M series when M used to mean something. I mean you don't see Honda making a pilot or odyssey Type R do you?

I personally like the Type R, I wouldnít mind owning one. Iím not a bmw fanboy (not loyal to the brand) so im not embarrassed to say I like the Type R. I used to have an Integra GSR in high school and I loved that car.

The only thing I donít like about my M2 itís heavy. Wish it was 300 lbs lighter.

I don't think putting these 2 cars against one another is farfetched. In my close group of friend, 2 of us have the M2 and 3 others have the type R, and we're all over 40yrs old.
I agree they are very different cars but some how it just turned out that way - Probably because they are 2 of the most fun cars to drive and best in their class... however, small that class is.

LOL honda so cheated on their time. Even the regular M2 murders the CTR in every lap comparo at different tracks. Ring is a high speed track which will favor the M2 even more, let alone an M2C
You should probably google the best recorded lap time for the M2C. You might be disappointed to know you're wrong.

Lol good luck getting a CTR for MSRP. They're selling for 40k min across the country.

They really need to stop advertising the 36k price, you literally can't buy it for that due to dealer markup, and you can't order it directly from Honda thus 40k is what the price is.

Everyone saying Honda "cheated" and the car was "Stripped" are being a little ignorant. Honda only took out enough weight to offset the weight added with the full cage which was a safety requirement. Putting it at production weight. If I had to choose between the CRT or M2, I'd probably change my mind 10 times in a week for various reasons. Stop being fanbois and be car enthusiasts. Peace.

Jump, but donít expect to turn faster lap times.

All the CTRs Iíve seen at the track are not in the same speed category with the Camaro SS, GT350, Vette, or the M3. And being FWD, it holds no interest for me.

I could easily get past the bizarre design, I understand and appreciate the mechanical excellence underneath, kudos especially for keeping the manual transmission alive. But the FWD formula is not fun enough for me personally.
