This has been discussed ad naseum in the other thread. I did not order my car with the Executive Package, but every piece of confirmation paperwork shows the Adaptive LEDs as standard. (I wouldn't pay extra for them.)

We'll know soon enough. It appears my car is on the first boat containing '18 M2s to reach the U.S., which is scheduled to hit Baltimore this Friday. So the race is on - Who will be first to take delivery of a U.S.-spec LCI and solve this compelling mystery?

I am betting (for fun) that you will be first in US to take delivery of US LCI M2, and that you will have the adaptive headlights/hex coronas.

I am betting that the forum thread you create with photos and details of your new car will get a lot of attention... just as this one has.

Well I know for sure they are not standard in the UK as my dealer just tried to lift the best part of £1,000 out of my wallet for them. £795 for the Icons and £175ish for the high beam assistant.

Going to stick with the non adaptives and put the money towards MP Carbon

Agreed. I don't have skin in the game, I would have ordered the exec package with or without the hex lights cause it's chump change for what you get. It will be interesting to see if the adaptive headlights do come standard though as that goes against everything that's been released on the LCI so far.

FYI I was also one of the ones that had adaptive headlights listed as a standard option on my original non-exec order. Im a week 36er so the theory of MY17's getting compensated for being rolled over is bunk. I later added the exec package for the back up sensors and nannies.

I wish the US was able to pick and choose options rather than a bundle of the exec pack

The boat holds more than 7,000 cars, so those are pretty long odds.

However, I have started working on a website where I'll sell the "official" pictures for $5 each.

I sort of agree with that... I don't think I'm ever going to use the heated steering wheel. I like the hex shaped headlights, but the main reason I included it was for the parking sensors and the active driving assistant.

Having said that, it's $1,550 MSRP, and there are quite a lot of things included for that price. If they were broken up, you'd end up with options that were in the low hundreds of dollars.

I actually liked the fact that the ordering process was simple, and there weren't many options. I didn't have the long dilemma of if I can or should be paying for an option that's pure luxury etc.

What frustrated me was that Apple Car Play is not included for free, and that Android Auto is not available at all!

Yeah that's true, it is very simplified which is nice. Hey you never know, living in the Bay Area, you might get some use out of that heated steering wheel lol.

That doesn't make any sense though. I prefer the gauges of the MY18. That must mean that I am trading my MY17 in for MY18 because the MY18 is better. I mean I wouldn't trade in my MY17 for MY18 if I didn't think the MY18 was better would I? So that would make me a MY18 owner. But how could I not prefer the MY18 tail lights then if I was going to eat the cost of trading up to MY18 from MY17? Shouldn't I then be biased toward the MY18 tail lights?

Maybe I should just keep both vehicles so that I can like parts of both?

It's wrong I think. You could always have High Beam assist WITHOUT adaptives, but if you choose adaptives, high beam assist is automatically included (at no extra cost).

Everything is personal choice. More so when we talk about aesthetics. but the person I'm talking to made a general statement that pre-LCI taillights are better.

I prefer LCI because, to me, it looks more modern and it finally has all LED in it which is brighter, crispier and sharper.

I always get face lifted models over the first versions for this reason, started with E36 3 series, Mini Cooper S, E46 M3, S2000 AP2, E92 328, 528, X5, and now M2.

Yeah, I know. It was a joke.

Anyway, still not sure why our boats were 2 weeks apart when our cars when through the factory together. None of this has made any sense. Oh well, the never ending wait continues.

Questions for OP

Hi Johanva,

Congrats on your LCI M2. Three questions:

1) Are you one of those early birds converted from MY17 to MY18 M2's?
2) If you are, did BMW ask you to pay MY18 price or MY17's?
3) What's the reason BMW told you why they converted your order? Did they run out of MY17 parts?

Thanks!

Yes I can spec High Beam assist as a standalone but if speccing the icon adaptives then high beam assist must be bundled. There is a prompt on the configurater.

I do like the unique look of the icon halo partial hex but I am not really going to use the functionality as I won't be doing a lot of night driving.

If I option it I would need to lose speed limit display and heated seats as I have a strict spend limit. I couldn't care less about heated seats but losing them means blank buttons on the dash and a big fuss from the community about such a crazy omission!!

I don't know either, especially since the boat I'm on heads for the West Coast after stopping in Baltimore...

Maybe others with a US M2 can confirm how the US models behave as far as stop/start staying off and the nannies...
Yes,in the US and Canada, the stop/start and the nannies stay off at each start up,after you have turned them off.

Well, there was only 2,995 M2's produced for the US market from the entire pre-LCI run as per SickFinga's excellent thread here -> http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1404565

Just running a few numbers ... assuming that there is a ship arriving every 2 weeks, and let's say that there was 12 months of production that therefore yielded 26 ships, you'd get an average of 116 car's per shipment. Therefore probably a 1% chance ... particularly as the ship likely docks on the East Coast of the US first!

Clearly those numbers can bounce around depending on assumptions (e.g. more than 12 months of production | different frequency of shipments etc), but still considerably better odds than 1 in 7000.

I've heard rumors that they are faux double stitching are actually stamps on the dash.

Thanks!
No contrast stitching on the knee pad and real stitching on the dash.

I ordered my car on May the 13th, the week after the facelift was announced (the first day the LCI was in the system of the dealer) so I didn't converted from MY17 to MY18.

It's kind of strange but it's not uncommon for me to need to carry 3 drinks in my car simultaneously, and that would be immensely helpful. Have to imagine that retrofitting it would be an absolute bitch though, just because acquiring the new seatbacks in the US will be hard.
Nope you still have the 50:50 too it's all win
EDIT: Yup 40:20:40 split

PS even in the front as driver you can carry 3 drink.

2 In the centre console
1 in the drivers door 2 series storage is oddly superior to 3/4 series door cards!

I often have protein shake blah blah post gym and these larger containers for me fit all options.

Then there is the passenger door also but there are 3 within drivers reach for sure.

Now...about all those bathroom 🚽 stops
