It's definitely possible for there to be differences - the exhaust piping will be a different length, so that could theoretically change the sound.

I don't think anyone is saying that the sound is going to be leaps and bounds differently than the F80/82 - but the S55's sound has developed and evolved over the M3/4's life cycle. It has gotten progressively better (in my humble opinion anyway) over time, and the M2C is a continuation of that incremental improvement.

Sounds the same as the M4 guys...the weed whacker farting sound is on cold start with these S55s. So leaving Cars and Coffee etc when the videos are made exacerbate that sound. But once the S55 is warmed up, it has a decent tone. M4 with comp pack sounds very similar to this once warmed up

Wait, so BMW has not released a single actual video of the car in motion or revving, but we are supposed to believe this audio-only clip is what it sounds like from the factory?
It could be an entirely different car.
It could be a computer simulation.
It could be someone farting at the dinner table.
Who knows if this is what it really sounds like.
My issue is that following the official release, BMW is still afraid to put out a vidoo of what the car really sounds like.
Not a good sign, and at least on the surface, their reluctance seems to reinforce all our fears all along - that it sounds just as crappy as the M3/4.

Without real video, it doesn't exist.

I said the same thing re: warmed up S55 earlier in the thread, you are absolutely right - a cold S55 and 3K RPM is no bueno in the sound department.

My ZCP is also getting better over time (I just turned over 12K miles), so I am hopeful for the M2C.
