For those who got the Contis at delivery
Just wondering if everybody who got these tires has the same noise problem. Have heard the complaints that these are noisy tires, but I swear mine sound like a first generation off-road radial on a pickup from the 80's. And it's getting worse as they wear. Yesterday I actually stopped to make sure I didn't have a belt separation it was so bad.
Just wondering if this is normal or if I truly have a unique problem. Will be replacing when worn, but have had Contis on other cars in the past, without the noise problem, and one of the things I liked about them was their longer life. Which seems to be the case with these. |

I put Michelin PS4's on my car at 6K miles because the Michelin Super Sports were not only too loud but, they performed so poorly in the rain.
I now have 30K on the PS4's and could not be happier with their all around performance and how quiet they still are. Plus, a *huge* difference in the rain - feel safe now. |

Mine seem fine so far. I have a little over 9,000 miles on them. I am planning on getting Michelin A/S 3+ when winter comes around again.

My 2017 M2 was delivered with continental tires and I don't remember any abnormal or excessive road noise that wasn't related to the road surface, e.g grooved pavement. I felt the grip was superior to my current Michelin Pilot 4S, which is expected when comparing the wear ratings.
My only complaint is the tires wore out in ~12K miles. Again expected considering the wear rating. |

Weird, I didn't feel there was any road noise issues with these tires (Conti SC3) but thought that the tread life was absolutely awful. I hit the wear bars in the rear around 7k miles. I also thought they were pretty bad in the rain even when I had tread. That and I felt they gave the car a ton of snap oversteer anytime I got sideways. Replacing with Mich PS4S and couldn't be happier.

I will replace them in the next month or so. The one thing that I really like about them is that I can easily "paint" two parallel lines on the road when all the nannies are off. They are so quick to loose grip that they are making me a better driver!

My Contis became too noisy to tolerate around 11,000 miles due to uneven wear and I replaced them with Michelin Pilot 4S tires.

Now that you guys mention it when my Continental were near the end of their life I was getting a noise that I thought was flat spotting b/c I hadn’t over inflated them during the previous winter storage.

Youve heard of 'wear bars'?... These are 'noise bars'. At 10k miles, these are probably near toast anyway.

My car is now at around 8000 miles total, mostly on the original Continental summer tires, around 500 miles put on winter Michelin PA4's (I got a set, but just didn't use the car much in the winter, I might sell them). 5k of that is just in the last couple of weeks, transcontinental zig-zag road trip. During which I found astounding differences in noise level depending on pavement, even compared to the pretty large variations locally here at home. On parts of California Route 1 in northern CA, and then again on US-54 in the Texas Panhandle, the tires were *ROARING*, really distracting. On lots of the good Utah roads whisper silent. Also actually where they have (finally) resurfaced I-78 near home in NJ and I couldn't hear the tires at all there, wind and engine noise masked it pretty completely. With also the usual variations, M2 somewhat loud in road noise in general on concrete and certain types of rough asphalt, pretty quiet other types of asphalt. But there were more outlier variations in such a wide ranging trip in a short time.
I guess it's not a wear issue anyway at this point. |

I switched from the factory contis to PS4S and the difference is night and day. More Grip, less noise, they dont follow grooves as much, best way to improve the M2 to be honest.

I've been running the dws06 for fall/winter seasons and they've done the job. I have however been looking to see if there is something even better. I always thought the advantage of the dws06 vs its competitors were the fact it claimed to run in "light snow" elements. |

I deliberately burned my Conti's up in about 7,000 miles. They were frightening in the rain. I'm on PS4s now and they are great.

I got about 20k out of the Contis in the rear and replaced them with T285/35ZR-19 Toyo Proxes 1 in the rear and 255/35R-19 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 in the front. The thicker sidewalls make for a more comfortable commute. Planning to go 295/30 in the rear and 275/30 in the front next time.

Is there a reason to not mix and match, or a personal preference? My mix and match was driven by price I spent about $150 a tire give or take at tire-rack. I put at least 800 miles on every week, so I have put about 10k on current set up with no adverse side effects that I have noticed. Granted the speedometer is off by a bit.

God, I'm glad I found this thread! I've been dealing with the same noise issue with the Contis (now at about 8k miles). It's got to the point that I am embarrassed to drive passengers around....

I really think both the Goodyears and the Toyos are a significant noise, ride and handling improvement over the continentals the car came with. I have already gotten 295/30ZR-19 Pirelli P Zero 2 XL for my next set on the rear again for 150 bucks each. Whenever the Toyos wear down I will put them on, but the tread wear on the Toyos is pretty good might be a while till I can report on the Pirelli's characteristics. |
