Allot of people including the reviewers of this video strongly feel this will be the best M car ever. Any information on what the next generation 2 series will be like?

In particular gauges, front grills and availability of manual. I strongly prefer the current vehicle's front gill, analogue type gauges and choice of manual.

Many details of the 2023 M2 are not known. A few things seem pretty certain.

DCT is likely discontinued in favor of the ZF8, a manual 6mt is most likely in the cards.
Guages likely to be a video game like the new M3/M4.
It will probably have the S58 engine but with a bigger heavier chassis.

More likely N58. Remember, the M2 was never meant to have a M-Engine. They had to do it due to emissions. I doubt they'll make the same mistake again.

I think we'll never see a non M engine in a M2 again. The car has made its business case and a detuned S58 will be factored into its production planning from day 1. They're already testing the new M2 well before the new 2 is even out.

I'm pretty sure that you are correct. Apparently there is a slight difference in the shape of the oil pan of the M4 Comp. I doubt that the oil pan in the M2CS is different than the one in the M2C though.
There is a diff between the M3/4 Comp (6.5 liters) and M3/4 CS (7 liters) and I think that the M2 CS has the same oil capacity than M3/4 CS.
Where's the BMW documentation to support your claim?

Update:

IIRC, BMW technical docs point out that the M2 CS lump is lifted from the M3/4 Competition, but the former has a larger oil capacity at 7L as you half correctly stated. M3/4 Competition and its CS brethren hold 6.5L of engine oil.

The M3/4 CS, however, is assured an ample supply of oil at longitudinal and lateral forces of up to 1.4g coupled with a return of the magnesium oil sump which was replaced with an aluminum part very early on in the F8X production cycle for reasons unknown.
Thx for the info. I remember that 7 liters was stated in a video review.

I believe the S58 was already confirmed. It makes sense to have more difference between the 240i and M2.

40 years before , someone with a brand new E30 M3 told the same thing about a 2002 or E9. 40 yrs later in 2020 , we are saying that the M3 has the name , but the M2 has the character. 40 yrs later , and not even , i bet in just 10yrs , when the 3rd gen M2 will be about to be released , the M2 will be already a legend , especially the first generation. Its always the case with the first gen , because people will see where the M2 came from , and they will look back at F87 .
Actually in my case, the love of the 2002ti is why I bought the M2CS

It helps that the M2cs is going for the same price these days. Think of it as a free infotainment system!

You could also say BMW can't complete with Porsche GT2 RS.

As to the M2CS I'll probably be looking for a used one in a few years.
I think that previous comment was brand vs brand rather than model vs model.

It's true, BMW doesn't compete in the supercar or high end sports car segment. I don't think you have to compete and win in ALL segments all the time to be a viable auto manufacturer.

An auto manufacturer is a business and a business exits to make money for its shareholders, if it has any, and it's employees/owner(s). If it makes the money without a supercar, that's fine.
BMW is far and away more akin to Toyota than Ferrari or Porsche. I actually don't think they could compete in that segment- especially if the M8 was an attempt at an approximation.

So many new car listings - over 100 - of the M2CS at Europes leading car trader site Mobile.de. Some listed now at 81K € down from 100K. Surely not a problem to pick a new up at reasonable price. Why? I like the car, but love my F80 more...

And thats the recipe for a first generation car , legendary status - in order for the following generations to be succesful , just look the E30 M3 , that was the car that made the M3 name so strong - even thought the M3 and now M4 changed a lot regarding the feeling of the car , the name its there , strong ! I hope the M2 in near future , to also gain that fanbase , because at the moment it has what it takes ! Now , we hope the G87 will continue and grow the M2 badge even more ! But as every generation , almost , is based on the very first generation , and we shall be proud owning one !

I'm showing up for my obligatory 4 door pitch. 4 doors worked on the E36M and the e46 330i PP. The M2 would be awesome with 4 doors. The Mini sedan that they're selling today doesn't cut it for me. I'll be putting more money into my E36.

Since prices in Germany include
19% VAT, 81k Euros is a great price!

See the dedicated thread and see also here.

Beware, it's a darn polarizing, sensitive topic, that recurrently surfaces. In speaking your mind, some feelings may get hurt in the process of existing or prospective OG M2, M2C and M2 CS owners. Petrolheads can be passionate about their views.

Most - including yours truly - agree that the M2 CS itself is a ///Marvelous piece of Teutonic automotive kit, the best F87 M2 that BMW M ever made available so far, straight out of the box. However, the proverbial elephant in the room is the price-tag.

Brief:
  • if you want the car and don't mind paying the price asked for it: buy one;
  • however, if you have an issue with the price-tag: steer clear (but feel free to speak your mind).
FWIW, also Top Gear pointed out that distinction (see here), whilst awarding the car a solid 8 out of 10:
"Verdict
Final thoughts and pick of the range
A brash, addictively brilliant sports car. But is it truly £75,000-worth of ‘brilliant’? Hmm…
What sort of attitude do you approach this car with? That’s what you’ve got to ask yourself. This is a great little sports car – entertaining at social road speeds, alive beneath you, but without veering into intimidation. It looks bloody spectacular when stationary and downright evil bearing down in your mirrors, or surging past you on a wave of torque with a cackling exhaust. To see the M2 CS is to want one.
If you merely view it as a stopgap between M4s, or a jumped-up Cayman GT4 rival, you’re likely to be non-plussed. Much as we love this tenacious little tyke, it’s bloody difficult to rationally argue it’s worth £75,000, even with its bespoke tri-nostril carbon bonnet and aero features. Only if you’re regularly hooning around a track will the CS’s superior cooling become necessary.
The chief problem is the enemy within – the utterly superb £51,000 BMW M2 Competition. Only to the most hardcore track day goers – or badge snobs – will the CS truly warrant spending half as much again, just to get the top model. Particularly when more than one after-sales tuner will happily wring the 40bhp difference out of the Comp’s engine for a whole lot less coin…
But, if you can afford it, and you want possibly the most downright desirable product of the M Division since the semi-legendary BMW E46 M3 CSL, you’re going to love the CS. And here’s why.
It feels like a car raging against the dying of the light, enjoying one last hurrah to the max before it itself is replaced, and against the wider backdrop of hybridification and legislation cracking down on the unmitigated joy that is a little car lobbing a big engine’s lump of poke to its back wheels. BMW’s been at it for a while, but it just never gets old, does it?
That said, for this money, we’d be knocking on Stuttgart’s door and asking for a two-seater for Sunday morning smiles. The rest of the week, the sublime M2 Competition will do damn near everything almost as well."

I may as well, and I'm very curious how the used market will go on these. The 1M dropped initially before going back to MSRP and higher at 3-5 years of age. Within the US, the demand seems to exceed supply significantly on the M2CS; I think it may drop slightly when the next gen 2er comes out, but it will stabilize around MSRP at a few years old.
