It's the usual paradox between the CTO, CMO and CFO. Engineering wants to make the best, marketing wants to have the most desirable one, but finance always wins and wants the most EBITDA out of it. Like scott26 told over and over again, BMW is in the business of making money and not at all building cars for its fan community which is dramatically over represented in this forum.

I would not be surprised when the employee engagement at M engineering is a bit down the last few years.

Yep, it similar to the story at Mercedes back in the 80's and 90's. Back then, the engineers ran MB. Despite making excellent products that were synonymous with bank-vault like quality and reliability as well as pioneering high tech features, this also drove them into the ground financially, which then caused the accountants to take over, and created the dreaded Daimler-Chrysler merger, which saved the company, but at a cost of dilution.

While BMW is surely enjoying their large cash flow and profits from their numerous SUV's, I hope they don't forget what made the company what they were and what made some of us loyal customers of theirs. Sadly with their latest marketing, I'm beginning to think they are forgetting.

This is the first time I've read that the cooling was different to the M2C also. I wonder if they meant the OG M2. I also read someone making the point of more negative camber on the CS, it's possible but what is fact?
it's been known for a while

I agree, the writing is so creative and the video production is very high quality. If they added more technical bits it would be perfect but I think they want to keep it lively.

I kinda wanna do that with the entire BMW executive team and play this video on a loop until they "get it".

No you don't!

If BMW made EVERY car this great, then the M2CS would be ordinary and boring.

The reason why it's the best is simply because, it is!

Keep them busy drooling with E46, E92, and F87 legends come only once a decade or two my friend.

... That's the formula

Don't agree, excellence is not relative to BMWs own internal benchmark, but based on direct comparison with references as a Porsche 718T or 911 or a mid engined corvette they just drove etc... When the press agrees an enthousiasts car is a benchmark, it's only because it sticks out wrt the competition. Brand internal scarceness is never an argument.

Covered in some other threads, but in interviews with BMW it is part of the smoothing of the airflow, and also part of crash protection - muffler goes down in impact.

Great review, thanks for posting!

Agree with the interior not living up to the price tag. And it's really my only complaint about my OG...too much plastic leading to way too many creeks and rattled. I would expect better for CS money.

But just like my OG, I'm sure it's easy to overlook given the fun factor behind the wheel.

Get an M2 while you can, future BMWs aren't likely to be as good as this!

As it stands, I have to agree that the M2CS represents the last great M car, at least in my eyes. I have zero interest in all the upcoming M models and the countless M-badged cars, the brand has lost it's way.

Here are just two examples of what I think MB and Audi are doing better these days that BMW doesn't have an answer for....

The advantage to an OG is you can drive the crap out of it (like I do every summer) and not feel badly about beating up on a limited edition car that's 100K in Canada. I already have a 1M that I mostly just look at because I'm almost afraid to drive it. My OG puts a smile on my face every time and is probably my most favourite M car I've owned (that I actually drive). Let's hope the next generation M2 is equally as fun.

It is easy to overlook. Flashy interiors are a necessity on paper, but once in the car for a few minutes it goes unnoticed. I went from my ftype svr to my run down 02 xterra while awaiting the CS. I can honestly say I don't miss the ftype. It was great, but didn't evoke the passion. I'm sad about parting ways with my xterra. It will be a sad day.

I'd love to own one someday in the near future. Actually considering swapping the lease on my M340 and grabbing an M2C and then getting a taco or something as a winter awd vehicle

I had 3 xterras before my wife decided that was enough and moved to a 4Runner a few years ago. Two of them were 6MT, and I loved how fun they were in the mountain and desert backcountry. Lots of character (and memories!) in those trucks, all with a less than fancy interior

Enjoy your M2CS...gonna be an amazing experience!
