This article is comparing Ferraris, Porsches, and our not-so-little little M2CS from TG - again confirming my previous comment:
"The M2 CS ... harks back to a time when M cars adhered to the simplest of recipes: rear-wheel drive, six cylinders and a small bodyshell. Does it justify the CS's rather terrifying price tag? Probably not, but this is a very special car and with the new M3 and M4 appearing to have borrowed facial features from a yawning rabbit, it might mark the high point for M cars in this decade. Just make sure that you go for the manual version – it's way more fun". https://www.topgear.com/car-news/spe...-vs-911-vs-db5

Although the general consensus was not as flattering about the M4GTS, I can tell you they closely share DNA. Both of mine leave me trying to describe what makes them feel and perform so special. You are in for a treat

It's retro - like Mini & Beetle & Mustang etc, look up the original A110 & you'll understand.

The Alpine is so ugly. It hasn't grown on me one bit.

I really like the standard A110. I'd definitely take it over a Cayman if I was in the market for a small sports car. It fits the brief a lot better.

That's like driving from Madrid to Moscow without turning. And you'd still only be 2/3 of the way across the US....with at least 10 hours straight (pun intended) spent driving across Texas alone. Bleh. I like the mountain twisties in my backyard... https://goo.gl/maps/hRZ4QRjDNQPythtN8 and just zoom out a bit to explore the roads here. I dare say it some of the tightest, twistiest, most scenic and fun roads you'll see outside of a race track this side of the Mississippi River. |

I'd wager the type of buyer of this mid engined lightweight coupe is more about the driving dynamics, still looks unlike dynamics are completely subjective. Being that it's a retro design I think it's an extremely cool take on the original version...

I dont see the appeal of the Alpine. The Boxter has better proportions in my opinion. You can't even get it in a 6 speed manual. Its a car with a little 4 banger motor, it would benefit from a manual gearbox. The CS outclassed it in every category with the exception of weight, so in that regard, im sure you can toss the Alpine around. But seriously, I would be looking at a Boxter or hell, even a Miata looks more fun.

Sorry but many Americans just don't understand true drivers cars imo (maybe it's because many live in big cities ? We see it a bit with those in the bigger cities down here too) everything has to be the biggest & loudest with the most power, hence the love of muscle cars, hi-po SUV's & trucks, which is fine if all your doing is commuting & the odd stoplight drags. Not much interest for those of us that actually enjoy driving though. Unfortunately manufacturers such as BMW are now pandering to this philosophy of ever increasing big numbers rather than real driving dynamics as it did in the past. Fortunately for those that can't afford a supercar & crave a drivers car for the love of driving we still have the likes of Porsche, Lotus & Alpine to choose from but the pool is drying up fast. Don't get me wrong I own & love the F87 but I'm not naive enough to not appreciate there are always better options. Oh & the big surprise in the test below with the M2C was not that the Alpine won but how close the M2C managed to get to the Alpine.
