What about the idea of an M2 "Gentleman's Racer" edition ?

I got to thinking, as the F87 production will be ending sooner than later, is the M2CS really the last special edition car BMW will make on the platform? How about something akin to a GT3 Touring for the F87? Take the Competition, get a color like British Racing Green, get a cream or a cohiba brown interior, go all the way and replace the carbon with dark wood & throw in a CS tune for good measure. Kind of a throwback to the old V12 Jags. Have I lost my damn mind? Or would anyone else buy something like that?

I've put a deposit down with my dealer for such a car. Just waiting for a call from BMW to ask for my buying history and hopefully I'll be selected by BMW UK. I'm guessing a 20% price increase over a CS would be reasonable but I'm prepared to pay +30% max for the exclusivity and rock-solid values these will retain.

Only if it would sit broken in my driveway, leaking oil, and suffering from electrical gremlins like a true British classic.

Don't listen to the haters! I would buy an Oxford Green M2C(S) with a Saddle brown or Cognac interior in a heartbeat! Even if it means taking a bath on my 3 month old M2C.

Would be cool if they did a CS light type of thing. Like CS bodykit + power + wheels and tires but std interior with all the comfort features.

Pretty sure people said that about the GT3 touring. "Why wouldn't you just get the fastest track focused GT3?!?" Well, because you want something that's nearly as fast around a track but you can enjoy daily driving, that also has some style and class. I would totally rock one of these.

I wouldn't be opposed to it. Personally I love the British green and cognac leather combo. Wood (see what I did there) it be out of place on a German sport coupe, yeah a little, but I wouldn't mind it.

For nearest reference maybe we need to look at what run out models came for the M3/4.

To my knowledge there's nothing pointing towards exciting new dynamics for a model. Perhaps expect differing colours and options, eg the M strip in the M4 CF roof.

Pretty sure a "Gentleman's" Racer would be inapropriate these days. I'm a fan of BRG on just about anything. Slap the matte gold wheels on it with the above mentioned interior choices and I think it would be a neat combo. Green for the money, gold for the honies.

Think of this as a unofficial Alpina M2.

What about Plan B: try to get a GT3 Touring and feel free to spec it the way you like.

You clearly don't understand the GT3 touring...

It's essentially the same damn car as the non-touring, just without the wing. The point is that it's a sleeper...it has the performance and visceral feel of the GT3 but essentially looks like a Carrera to any non enthusiast.

The ride is just as harsh. The track performance is equal (less downforce, so you lose some of that, but nothing that a mere mortal driving would really even feel). It doesn't add any sort of extra creature comforts...no swapping carbon for wood or adding back seats back in...the interior is essentially the same, actually it's actually even MORE stripped down with less insulation/sound deadening.

What you're describing isn't a GT3 touring at all.

I mean, not according to Porsche themselves...
Quote:
Leather dominates the interior instead of Alcantara®. That is another indication that the 911 GT3 with Touring Package has been developed especially for those drivers who do not only see their territory on the race track. With the partial leather interior with decorative stitching in black, the steering wheel rim and top center marking are lined in smooth-finish leather. This also applies to the gear lever, door armrests, center console storage compartment lid and door release levers. The seat centers are made of black fabric. The headrests are embossed with the Porsche Crest. The door sill guards are made of brushed aluminum in black, as well as the decorative trims on the instrument panel and center console.
Sounds exactly like what i'm talking about. A CS that's designed to look a little more subdued.

I think Porsche's description and reality may be a bit far apart.

The Alacantara that gets swapped for leather represents about 5% of the interior. We're talking roughly the steering wheel trim, arm rest, and some trim on the doors.

If you sit in a GT3 vs. a GT3T they are 95% the same interior. Actually most of those options are free options on the GT3 if you please to swap things like the Alcantara wheel for leather.

There is no option to replace carbon bits with wood, or swap in brown leather etc. and I promise you the interior is not more "comfortable" at all. As mentioned it's actually a bit rougher (by design). Go ahead and play with the GT3 configurator if you don't believe me. By and large, the GT3T is the same exact car as a GT3 just without the wing.

Not saying that should detract from your concept, but the GT3T doesn't seem like the best comparison for it.

Why absolutely ruin a perfect and impossible color combo to get on an m2 with wood trim? I'm already upset when I see a perfectly good e9X m3 with wood.

At least you can wrap the trim I guess....

They will make a bunch of random special additions probably, but just a combo of m Performance parts, like a shadow edition that's black, with black wheels, and a plaque.

If we're super lucky they'll offer a new color, but I would be money against it.
