Best rims and tires for track days

Anyone have favorites or can point me to a thread about this? Have an upcoming track day at Roebling Road mid November and want a dedicated set of tires. Just did CMP on street tires and while I was low 150s I really want some different rubber. Thanks much.

763m wheels with RE-71R tires (or cup 2's if you want to spend $$$$)

OEM quality and super lightweight. Can't beat them for the price.

Since you are runnng stock 19 wheels the RE71 is your best all around tire. The Yokohama AD08 is a very solid street tire that performs well on track...lasts longer than RE71 but not as fast. One step up would be the BFG R1s...very fast in the dry if the temps are over 50.

Apex for sure. Cheap and strong. Not sure about tires just yet as I have not got my car on track just yet. I have a set of R888R's I will be trying out, but I hear they aren't as good as the NT01 that I was using on my M4. I was very happy with those but no sizes for our cars.

RE71s have a fast wear rate. They are great for autocross, but you will eat them up on track. R888Rs wear better and perform well but need some heat, and it doesn't do great in the wet. You might look at Hankook RS4s. We race them in an endurance series. Not as fast as RE71s, but very durable and still good in the cold and wet.

I track my M2C a lot and have been through 2 sets of Cup2 and 1 set of R888. I liked the R888 more and will try the R888R next!

I run RS4s on my endurance car as well. I liked the old RS3s better, but i'll second the notion that the RS4 is durable and performs well in a pretty big temperature range.

I ran RS-3 on my Mustang. Good grip and lasted longer than I expected. But on hot days they did get greasy. What is it that you dislike about the RS-4 relative the RS-3.

It felt to me like the breakaway characteristics of the RS3 were a little more progressive when compared to the RS4. I've been running RS4s for the past three or four years though, so its been a while since i've run an RS3.

Also bear in mind, i aint running no mustang. My track car is basically an M2c in limp mode. 3400 lbs, 6-cylinders and just over 100 hp. Lower speeds means lower temperatures, so i wasn't really having any problems with overheating the tires.

Nice, that looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for the feedback on RS-4s. Considering them for my M2. I have 1.5 years to get under 8min BTG on Nordschleife, and sticker rubber will help increase my confidence. Not much room for error.

I was looking through this as I'm considering second wheels to put dedicated track tires on, but see that the only forged options are 18", which won't fit over the brake calipers. There are 19" flow-form options that would likely work, but at a weight/strength compromise. Would most people would recommend just going flow form? It would be awesome if the company did do 19" forged wheels for the same $ premium as they do over the flow-cast wheel in the 18". It looks like about $200 increase from Flow-formed to equivalent forged wheel in the 18" size. I'd pay that premium for the lighter and stronger wheel in 19" size if I could. Overall, company still seems to be offering great products and good prices when compared to other companies selling forged wheels... I may just get the Flow-formed 19" version and put on some R888Rs or may go broke and balls to the wall with some P Zero Trofeo Rs and get that one hot lap in for a personal record that means something only to me. But I'm sure it'd be fun!

Would like to get good value 19" x 10.5 rear wheels and 19" x 9.5 fronts to be able to run R888Rs all around at 265/35 front and 285/35 rear. Tire cost from Tire Rack is about $1340. If I could manage to do this with a quality wheel for around $4k all in, that would be tits! Honestly don't think I can justify trying to afford BBS forged or forged with flow form for $1.5k-$2k per wheel! I work hard for the money and no silver spoon action happening here

Planning to drive from Charlotte, NC to Rochester, NY (it's a long way) in June 2020 to do a BMW HPDE at Watkins Glen with a buddy, and would much prefer to change wheels when I get there to keep from using the entire tread life of the R888Rs, Cup 2s, or P Zero Super Trofeo Rs in the commute from her to there and back! Not to mention, I may be threatening my own life if it rains a lot in that commute with any of those tire options.
