can the dealer backdate DME?

as the title says...

It seems that tuners say that they will can do a bench backdate the DME to pre update, and then do the tune... can't you ask the dealer for an older version of DME tune?

Also, once the tuners backdate the DME, can you then control which tunes u use via an obd2?

Finally, since DME is locked, can you still do coding for stuff? like folding mirrors and such...

Coding stuff is separate. I bought my car last week of June with the newest DME and BimmerCode app still works. I highly recommend using that app for all your coding needs. (Like folding mirrors, very easy to use and auto backups your code for you just in case something goes wrong)

As for the DME backdating I'm not sure.

Garage List
I'd be surprised if they'd do that even if they could.

Not positive about BMW but most car manufacturers only allow flashing to a newer version not older.

My dealer is sending my DME in to Carbahn to have it unlocked and flashed, since it is newer than 5/19. I believe Dinan offers the same process for newer, locked DME's, according to my customization specialist.

Is the process to unlock the ECU just backdating it to a previous version before the March lock?

it seems that way... the question is, how do they do it, and why can't it be done over obd2 (not questioning them, just curious what is the process difference).

And I would be very curious if any dealer could backdate... it shouldn't be too difficult.

During banch flash they use a backdoor in Tricore processor and directly read and write the ecu, no matter what software it has. i assume they write back the oldet bootlooader and other stuff...

Block the DME upgrades with a MATCH 7 amp.

What about this idea?

Expend on BM3 and then have a upgrade from your Dealer is my fear.

Thoughts!
