Is this normal?
I'm new to the M2C, still learning the quirks. When you're coming to a slow stop, is it normal to feel/hear a slight "clunk" in the rear somewhere as you stop? (Have a DCT)

After paying more attention to it, not sure it's the rear. Almost center of the car. Happens even at speed when you immediately take foot off gas, removing load, and when you immediately put load back on. Maybe it's normal to have some play in it. Would love more input from owners please before I ask the dealer.

I have never had a clunk from three DCT cars when coming to a stop. Are you guys in D or S mode?
Clunk from MT - totally understandable

I have heard a sound on my M2 but not on the M2C.
But recently, I started hearing it on the M2C but not as much as the M2. I would describe the sound as if there was a round circle with a notch in it and inside the circle was a rod w/a key slightly smaller than the notch and when I would pull out (never heard when stopping) that rod would turn until the key hits the notch and rotates the circle. So based on that I thought it was the diff and the noise was the slop. Worse case I thought it might be the diff bracket was loose an that was the slop from the torque when the diff engaged. Hope that made sense. Never posted about it b/c it was too hard to describe. |

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I can pretty much replicate it at will driving in D, Sport+ and Drivelogic in 2. Quickly putting on and off load around 3k rpms in 4th gear for one example. However tried it in Sport and couldn't replicate it yet. Felt tight then. When slow stopping I tried it in S, Sport+, Drivelogic 2 and happened when going from 2 to 1st as I stopped. Ton of variables I could test in of course, and will do more testing. Definitely there in Sport+. Will try in Efficient and Sport some more. |

So far it's only happening in Sport+. Needless to say I am fairly confused at this point lol.
I was wrong, not just Sport+. Just easier to reproduce with higher rev/more immediate torque delivery. I can make it go clunk clunk clunk with foot on off on off the gas. Gonna take it in Monday. Last edited by Triple Seven; 10-05-2019 at 03:35 PM.. |

(It also happens sometimes coming to a slow stop, right as it auto shifts from 2 to 1 as the car completely halts.) Last edited by Triple Seven; 10-05-2019 at 08:14 PM.. |

I completely believe you guys saying it's normal. Not everyone has it though, which is why it's confusing. If that's understandable. It's normal to have it and it's normal not to have it.

But I believe the longer you own these cars, the faster you'll realize M cars are not quiet cars, and I don't mean the exhaust noise. All the transmission tolerances, bushings and chassis are hardcore. For example, the bushings are way stiffer than your normal sports car, the subframe is mounted directly onto the chassis, etc. They are SUPPOSED to make weird sounds/clunks. Also just because another person with the same car, same config doesn't have this exact sound/sensation, doesn't mean there's something wrong with yours. They all behave a little differently. IMO as long as the car is mechanically sound and operates flawlessly, it's a perfectly fine M specimen. My 0.02. |

Drove with the shop foreman today, he heard what I was hearing/feeling and said that it's normal. So my mind is at ease. Explained how everything works, and also how since it's a high performance car it needs more play, to compensate for when things heat up.
I really appreciate all the feedback you guys gave me. |
