Hey all, working on a bit of a project, and I need to find someone with the 12v lighter socket under the glovebox to send me some pictures. Mine is just an empty hole, but I know some have this connected.

I need to see where the 12V wires are connected under the panel. If someone can get a good picture of this, it would be massively helpful!

I had no luck with this either, and yesterday I wired-up my dashcam by running the power line all the way to the trunk (where the fuse box is). A bit of a PITA, but really, working in the bowels of the dash is no fun either, so it's a wash.

It wasn't difficult to find a circuit that was only live with the ignition, although the one I got is part of the accessory bus, so it goes on when you open the door and shuts off about 10 minutes after you leave the car. It may shut off sooner if you lock it, but I didn't worry about that.

Thats actually exactly what I need (switched power).

I'm wiring up a lap timer and need a power source that will shutoff with the car (or shortly thereafter).

Do you happen to remember where the accessory bus was, and did it stay on while the car was running?

Yes. It turns on when you open a door, stays on while the car is running and shuts off shortly (I haven't timed it) after you turn off the car.

I'll have to find a drawing of the fuse box for you.

The front fuse box has un-used locations for both Accessories (called Terminal 30B in BMW parlance), and for Ignition power (called Terminal 15N). You cannot assume that just because there is a fuse in the holder, that it's actually connected to anything.

If you can pick up the correct crimp, which is available with a wire on it from BMW dealers, then you can attach it to the bottom side of the front fuse holder. There is an opening under the passenger footwell that goes to the back side of the fuse box so it's easy to access too.

For ground, there is a factory grounding plate on the floor of the passenger footwell.

Dang. My research showed that there is no front (passenger compartment) fuse box in the F87, that you have to go to the trunk. I wish I had known.

Wow, dude the Google doc fuse listing is awesome!

Did you figure it out yourself from scratch, or were you able to find some other document to use as a base?

The “fuse map“ provided by BMW is useless in terms of telling you where things actually are. It only goes halfway…

For example, it says that the 12 V sockets are fuses 66, 69 and 161 IIRC, but those are spread out between the front and rear fuse boxes, and unlike your document, the map doesn’t tell you which socket is which fuse! SMH...
