BM3 or Active AutoWerke tune...

Hey guys, need help from anyone that has experience with either of these tunes. Did a search but trying to get specific info. I have a 18 M2 manual with MPE. Just installed a Fabspeed sport cat. I will also install a intercooler and charge pipes. Now I just need a tune. Looking at the BM3 or Active Auto tune. Both seem to have great reviews. Not looking for the most power... just reliable good power with options. Thoughts.....

Cheers

I recently did stage 2 BM3 and it smoothed everything out for me. I definitely would recommend.

Our tune was developed specifically to provide reliable, smooth, power. It has seen 15+ track weekends in Florida heat along with 15,000+ street miles on our shop car without any issues. If there's anything I can help you with please feel free to PM me

I used both on my car and i can easily say you won't go wrong with either option.

Active Autowerke maps are more aggressive in the mid range and redline.

Bootmod3 offers unparalleled features and flexibility, also allows you to make any change from your phone or laptop without having to ask and wait for a new map.

BM3 seems to be pretty aggressive in terms of wanting quality octane. It does have maps for ACN shit quality gas though.

Have the AA with fabspeed DP Dinan free flow. Great experience with AA. Cold start delete was a game changer for me. Power is smooth and linear all the way to redline and it is not pushing any safety boundaries it feels solid and safe. Good customer service also. I communicated with them a couple times and they sent me new tune maps to dial it in just the way I wanted.

Hope that helps.

I went with AA due to their ability to provide a track worthy tune. As I mostly drive the car on the track, that was most important to me. Sure there are tunes that achieve more power, but reliability was a big influence on my decision. Customer support has been very helpful as well.

100% go with Active.

I’ve run my car at 8+ track days now in 100deg heat with no issue whatsoever. Super solid tune.

I couldn’t agree more that the cold start delete is a game changer.

Active for most power out of the box

Bootmod3 is the best overall tune when it comes to pricing, features, power and flexibility

Wake up guys, it's 2019. There is no such thing as an aggressive AND track proven tune. They don't co-exist by definition.

AA tune did have a road course map which, according to them, was track tested with their shop car back in late 2016 and 2017. That tune showed smooth power at full range on dyno paper. Marketed as "track ready and not competing on peak power", the product came out at the time when bench unlock was still a requirement and people can't wait to see "what the M2 can really do". Of course the product was not very well received.

People like hard punches so AA had to change. They went VERY aggressive low down from about mid/late 2017. Forget about track proven calibration. I knew that from reading a couple logs from the guys switching from AA to BM3 (so they logged the old tune).

AA later installed PS2 turbo and went completely wild.

Whatever map AA's trying to make you believe track proven, it's very unlikely to be the AGGRESSIVE OTS map that you're getting for your FBO car and on average pump gas. Or it's just NOT aggressive.

That is in no way I'm trying to say BM3 is superior (because I'm not), nor am I starting a tuner war. Just put together a few facts and thoughts, as an independent.

Doesn't seem there's much of a difference between the AA and VF tune?

I own and have used all three tunes on my 2018 LCI. I started with VF and while it is a fun tune, there is no adjust-ability (ex. cold start delete) to the tune you receive. My customer service experience with them was awful so buyer beware. The tune pulled hard down low, but would peter out above 5500 rpm. It is a traffic light to traffic light tune IMO.

AA was my second tune, and will say the ability to work with them was a pleasure. Great customer service and configuration options in the tune. Unfortunately the tune is not aggressive in feel when compared to the VF tune I had replaced. I don't track my car, but I do play around when I take it out as my weekend car. I'm sure it's probably more reliable in the track application compare to other aforementioned tunes, it just seemed very tame when wanting to do a few hard pulls and some aggressive driving. This tune was much more linear in its delivery and did provide power pretty much to redline, but the overall delivery of that power felt very tame.

BM3 is where I have landed currently, and I am impressed. The car pulls as hard if not harder than the original VF tune, but I also have lots of options to configure the tune to my needs. It was cheaper than both the other tunes by almost half. They also release new versions that you can upgrade too free of charge. The new Stage 2 93 oct ver5.8 map really delivers. The tune is as aggressive on the butt dyno as the VF HEX down low, but now keeps developing power all the way to redline as advertised. I feel like I am getting all the available power from the money spent on mods.

Hopefully this helps give you some impressions of the differences I have noticed in owning all three.

Thx for all the replies guys. Ive been away for a while.. Great info from everyone. Im leaning towards the BM3. More because of all the features and the constant great reviews. Love the fact that I can constantly change maps as I install more mods. exciting

That's the way I'm leaning. If you do an off the shelf tune I'd do BM3. Custom tune with BM3 is more $ (I believe) than ECUTEK and all of their tunes are custom to your vehicle and your mods.
