Exactly why I don't like this color. It simply looks dull and rust colored in certain light.

I have kind of come around to it not being terrible in that it doesn't look awful... but it's still BAD relative to other orange choices. Saw an X2 in it the other day and I was like well, at least this is more fun than black, white or gray.... but it's a lame orange.

I like it, have ordered it.
May yet change to HS though.

I’d like to see one in Sunset with the carbon M Performance parts (namely front splitter, side skirts and boot lip spoiler). Then I’ll be able to make my decision. With the black wheels think it should look good.

Looks good in direct light, but I don't think I like it otherwise.

In my opinion, first pic color looks great, second one sucks. I'm afraid the second one will be the way the car looks like mostly here, so not considering it.

SO is an awful colour, very drab. I see it out and about most days and it's just dull. Who ever chose it at BMW world needs sacking.

I was set on HS from the get go but seeing it in person confirmed my thoughts. Here it is on a 3 series the day I ordered my car. A little drab looking to me. Pic taken from an iPhone 7 plus:

I highly recommend anyone looking to purchase in SO to look in person. There are a few current BMWs which have SO as an option (M240i, 3 series). The colour even in direct sunlight is pretty brown and doesn't really pop in my opinion.

You have to really like orange to want this color and even at that it's more of an orange/bronze cross that just doesn't work. Personally feel it looks worse live than pictures as the car needs to be pristine clean like the picture above for it to look just okay. If the car is not clean it's a very dull looking color.

Can’t wait to see a new proud M2C owner post his new car thread, only to have everyone sh*t on his color choice.

Couldn't care less what people think of the color choice I make, which will be SO. Never have understood why people look to others to validate their choices...

I don't think this is that thread though. We are just discussing the color that nobody owns one to date on this car. I don't think people are going to post these opinions in "Official Sunset Orange" thread where owners post pictures of their cars as that's disrespectful. I think it's one of those colors you need to be absolutely sure about before you order because some people love it in person and some hate it.

I like the color, from the looks of it Sunset Orange M2 will be rare.

Rare? Maybe on a M2C, but you can already find it on M140i's, M240i's, 2-Series, 1-Series, X1, X2, 3-Series, 4-Series and now also on the 8-Series.

It is freaking across the whole line up...

By similar argument you can say HS isn't rare, as lots of similar colours across different brands.

At least SO, you only really see on BMW.

If you want 'exclusive' - the choice is LBB

I do not really care about other brands and their colors... In the end, there is not a BMW badge on the car. With SO I could go to a BMW car meet and park my M2C next to a M240i in SO, or stand in front of a traffic light next to a X1 dressed in SO driven by a family guy in a midlife crisis...

No thanks please, I want a M color. Of course, I want something decent like imola red or signal green, but that is unfortunately not available.

BMW isn't about color - most people want white, gray, silver, or black. Or shades of those colors. My dealership has 1 orange car, no green, and maybe a blue or 2, and I don't even think they have anything red. Everything else is white, gray, silver, or black. That said, I'd guess that SO is a rare color across ALL BMW's even though it is available on multiple models. I too would love more color choices but we don't have them. LBB I love, but it's the most common color on the M2 and it is available on other models as well. At least SO is new to the M2 and should be the rarest on the car.

And as my wife reminds me every time I bring it up, I already have a blue car. LOL!

We're probably getting SO as it's going to be my wife's car, and she isn't the least bit interested in anything silver or black. LBB is the other choice, but after owning our E39 M5 for 15 years in LeMans Blue, [opinion on] LBB isn't even close to being a "real" blue [/opinion off]. We still have a bit of time to decide with 2nd next allocation spot. Other than color, we know it will be 6MT and slicktop, exec pkg.

When we went to look at SO at our local dealer, looking out over their back lot there were probably 60-70 BMWs of all models, and it was a sea of bland (mostly black, gray, silver, and derivatives) with one Melbourne Red and one Sunset Orange car standing out dramatically. They've recently acquired a 230i in Estoril Blue which looks fantastic too. Too bad that isn't a choice also in the M2C.

I agree Sunset Orange M2C will be rare, doesn’t matter that it is on other models. SO doesn’t look to be a popular choice for M2C buyers, many seem to not like the color. M2 meetups, the SO M2’s will standout in the sea of grey, white, and blue.

HS looks to easily be the most optioned color. There will be a lot of HS M2C out there.
