This actually drives me completely nuts. Car tells me all day long to shift into XY gear....

Is this the most useless "feature" ever??

I know what gear I am in and I also know what gear i want to drive in next.

I searched through idrive settings for hours, i cannot find a way to disable that shit. Also i found no other way using bimmercode or similar..

If it at least would show the gear I currently am in? (That would be a bit less useless at least)

Any ideas would be VERY welcome!

P.S. i know it's super easy in MY16 iDrive. But for MY17/MY18 this seems no more possible?

You can definitely disable the shift indicator entirely. My car is in for service, but if nobody else gives you the procedure I will find out for you when I have it back.

Unfortunately, on a 6MT there is no way to just make it display the current gear (which is what I want it to do, for the rare occasion I have a brain fart and forget what gear I'm in).

If you don't believe him , try a single day 700 mile drive . You'll forget a few times

Yeah, I only forget on long trips or if I'm preoccupied thinking about other stuff. E.g. I merge onto the highway in 3rd, shift up to 4th because I still want some power to get around other traffic, and then it takes me a while to get through that and I momentarily forget if I put it in 6th or not.

The car certainly knows what gear it is in - there are magnetic / hall-effect sensors in there somewhere to help enable the auto rev-matching. Even without those, the computers can do the math based on wheel speed sensors + engine RPM and determine the gear from that (my 2012 Audi TTRS did this, and it would always display your current gear in the cluster, along with the "suggested" gear for best fuel economy if you weren't already in it).

Did you go to customize menu? It might be hidden. Not sure if it's an option on that screen. Will check in a bit.

Just spent another 15 minutes in the car. I can look and search in iDrive where I want, its not possible.

When bimmercode supports the KOMBI control unit i‘ll have a look at the available settings in expert mode...

Hi,

just change:
SPA_CHECKBOX to active in HU
SPA_KOMBISELECT_DISABLE to nicht active in KOMBI

This will enable new option in iDrive to disable gear shift indicator.

Cheers

Is there a way to code it to show just the current gear?

SPA_IST_GANG_ENABLE is for that. But cannot test it at the moment.

Are you running the latest version of launcher pro with a recent copy of PSdZData Lite? I had a similar problem on my M2 LCI after I upgraded to the latest ISTEP. The kombi module became readable after I upgraded launcher pro to the late September build.

I ordered my Pro Token this morning, hopefully I don't have to wait three months for it...

Now it's working! thanks to the help of OKCZ with descrambling the KOMBI FDL's I can now switch the shift point gear indicator on and off

It's much cleaner and less distracting without that useless thing!

For those facing a similar issue, 3003_0_0_32 is SPA_KOMBISELECT_DISABLE which must be set to "nicht_aktiv" in addition to SPA_CHECKBOX which has to be "aktiv". SPA_IST_GANG_ENABLE (show current gear) does not work.
