What´s the price over the competition you guys think it´s going to have?

Sorry about my english.

P-Car. I don't care what they make the M2 CS/CSL it won't be as good of a car as a new GT4. Bet on it.

Agreed.

The next logical step after an M2 is a GT Porsche IMO (GTS, GT4, GT3/RS)

Agree but GTS is no GT car

GT4 is barely a GT car It has the 'N55' red head stepchild engine treatment, not a real GT engine. The new one is supposed to have the detuned 991.2 4L GT3 motor which will be sick.

The problem is unless you have already bought a P car (or 5) from a dealer you aren't getting the 718GT4 new...doesn't matter how much $$ you have or who you think you are. I tried to get on the list at two dealerships and the sales guys just laughed at me...literally. One guy actually said "No chance. Zero. I can sell you a Macan if you want."

Try harder. I have 2 deposits at #6 and #14 at 2 out of state dealerships. Both should honor MSRP. It's not hard to get these cars at MSRP and without prior history if you really tried.

And yes, the dealerships did get that many allocations on the previous GT4 so they should get at least as many this time since the production numbers will be higher.

The next GT4 will not get the 4L from the GT3. It will get the old 3.8L with X51 and an upgraded intake. Still very very good.

I agree about the "begging" aspect as it pertains to Porsche, utter nonsense for an enthusiast to be subjected to. Then again, it is a P GT car, considered by many as driving nirvana. I hope I get the chance to grovel to a Porsche sales person at some point and see what all the fuss is about. Until then, my suped up 2er will provide way more than adequate driving pleasure.

That's what I've been told too but there are some very low miles/new 1st gen GT4 for sale at dealers around Montreal... I wonder why people can't get allocation but then the dealer has brand new car for sale

There was mention of an M4 CSL, ok, I get it but it should be M3.

But an M8 CSL??? M8 and lightweight don't go together except for the actual race car...
The M8 Coupe is heavily inspired by the Race car after all the race car is called the M8 not the M850i GTE. I saw the M8 Coupe recently in its Motegi paintwork, it's a brutal looking beast, promises to be crazy fast and rewarding.
It was heavily Stressed enough that this not an M5 Coupe and that it opens a chapter that will gradually add to throughout its Life Cycle.

When the M2CS debuts the window is not too long to close in regards to including further progression, as all focus will be put on the new M3 and M4 Coupe models.

Not sure where you got the begging part from. Most dealers are not very honest and this is the same with most manufacturers (BMW included). I remember my local dealer asking for a 10K market adjustment on his 3rd or 4th allocation of the original M2. This is simple demand and supply.

However, there are still good guy dealerships out there who will sell you a car at MSRP if you got on the list well in advance. Some give first priority to existing customers and then go through the list which is completely fine by me.

It will require a fair bit of calling around to get the list of dealerships but should be relatively straight forward after that.

The 991.1 GT3 was an evolution of the old 3.8L. It got better internals, an improved intake, lubrication system etc. to handle the extra RPM.The GT4 does not need the fancy internals and hence will not have them.

I exchanged a few messages with a local race team owner who drives the old GT4 Clubsport and has seen the new GT4 clubsport. He was very happy with what Porsche have done with it. The new car should continue to produce more power right till the redline where the older car stopped a few hundred RPM short of the redline. The improved intake should be similar to the new GT3 as well.

The difference in the engine internals between the GT3 and GT4 is purely due to necessity. The GT4 does not need the fancy internals because it does not need to rev as much. It's a well known fact that there are not many cars that can take as much abuse on the track as the ones from Weissach.

I fully expect the new car to knock 10 seconds off the time set by the old GT4 (7:40) on the Nurburgring which brings it very close to the M4 GTS's time. Now add the fact that it does this with a manual transmission and no turbos. There's something very pure and special about it.

I can get one, probably at some sort of premium, but I’m not at that stage in my life just yet. Still need 4 doors/4 seats.

But in 2-3 years time there will be nothing stopping me from getting a used GT3, GT4 or GTS (stick is a must). Plenty of choices out there with less than 10k miles on them.

Is Porsche gonna keep the long gearing ratios ?

Sounds can deceive, but doesn't that (fast) *chuck* sound during shifting rather suggest PDK than manual transmission for trained ears (Monza circuit - October 2018 testing) ? (fixed side windows = Clubsport).

But for me the CSL needs to be a GT4 homologation special: an almost track car made for the road.

No one knows what engine the 718 GT4 will get but here are the 4 rumoured contenders:

*Detuned 4.0L GT3
*All new 4.0L N/A
*Old 3.8L + X51 powerkit
*3.0L turbocharged

Gatte, what are your thoughts on a GT4-RS ? If one is in the pipeline, thats the one i'd imagine would get the GT3 engine
