Rear diff oil for M2 Comp -- MSP/A or SAF-XJ ?

I am getting ready to do the 1200 mile run-in service on my M2 Comp. The BMW TIS procedure (which I checked this morning, so it's up to date) calls for MSP/A oil for the rear diff, part 83 22 2 365 988, which is a regular 1L bottle. However, nobody seems to stock that, and the substitution suggested is SAF-XJ, part 83 22 2 357 992 (also 1L bottle). Both are 75W-140, but not the same oil.

Anybody know about either oil? Obviously I'd prefer to use MSP/A if it's spec'd in the official procedure, but it doesn't seem to exist. What little information I found online suggests BMW began spec'ing MSP/A with the F generation M cars that have an electronic locking diff. Prior to that they had spec'd SAF-XJ or SAF-XJ-FM.

thanks,

Why would you be doing it yourself as a matter of interest?

Convenience -- this is a quick easy job that I can squeeze in whenever I have spare time, versus wasting half a day at a dealer 50 miles away.

Call your dealer’s service dept and ask what p/n they put in M2C’s 1,200mi diff service?

Per BMW USA, the only suitable oil in the USA is SAF-XJ. Though MSP/A is the spec (and probably the factory fill), it’s never been available in the USA.

Beware, some dealers erroneously put in SAF-XJ-FM, where the FM stands for “friction modifiers”. This was OK for previous generation M cars prior to 2016, but it can damage the electronic diff in newer models.

I did the service today, quick and easy. The original oil looked like swamp water and had a minor amount of metallic sludge, but no flakes or chips.

I will be doing this in the future also. I will also be changing out my manual transmission oil as well. Both easy to change.

Outstanding -- best money I have spent on a shop tool in years. Home Depot had a pretty good sale on them recently and I was able to get the 7000# model for under $1200 with free shipping. Also bought the frame extenders. The printed assembly instructions have some errors, but a revised PDF is available from the quick jack website.

Awesome to hear! I really want one but don't have a garage I can drive into .

I will buy one once my friends get their garages haha.

I envy you US guys for the price of your goods and real estate (outside of the crazy exp cities).
