Bmw M2 Harman Kardon Problems

Hello everybody!

This is my first post and i'm pretty desperate as i no longer want to drive the car when it's making these noises.

My HK sound system recently started crackling and popping.
I'm really bad when it comes to car audio and really have no idea what to look for
It makes the sounds whenever the battery is on so it basically only stops when the car has been turned of for about 30sec.
I will probably send videos to bmw and se if they can fix the problem on a "GOOD WILL" as i have no warranty left.
But just wanted to check if any of you have had the same problem as me

It is a documented problem that water sometimes gets into the amp and fries it. Most people have had the problem when they get their cars tinted. You need to pay your dealer a visit.

Dealers have been fitting a cover to prevent the issue happening. Was applied to my car without my knowledge whilst in for other work.

I've had my rear light clusters replaced for similar issues.

Not sure if this is classed as a recall though.

Thanks for the fast reply.
Can you still listen to music if the amp is fried?
Cause i still can listen to music, but the popping sound is still there.
As said when it comes to car audio i'm completely useless haha.

Thanks for the reply!
So you think they would replace it free of charge as it's a known issue?

A recall, 100%. Product enhancement, probably not. I'll see if I can find out.

Although it depends on the country. UK seem to be more relaxed than some others.

I had this issue on my 2017 M2. Replacement cost was about $2300 including installation.

The amp is probably broken, just not completely broken. I wouldn't be listening to music if it's cracking and popping.

Go to the dealership and have them sort it out if the car is still under warranty.

Had the car 3 days and now no audio. Seemed to correspond with getting a text via CarPlay?
Or, just a bad amp? Any advise other than a trip to the dealer?

Sorry to revive a dead thread but did you ever get this issue resolved?

Yes, my issue resolved itself with no trip to dealer. Thinking I deleted my bluetooth connection from car and phone then re-paired
