If the performance, along with the cost of a lower model, overlap with that of a higher model, it gives both owners, along with the manufacturer, a "diplomatic" way out.
Everyone gets what they pay for and BMW instantly kills aftermarket tunes and makes more dough.
I realize it's a bold concept but it's just as silly to hold cars back from their full potential. There should also be room left for product versioning...win-win for all involved.

Attention BMW bean counters: off you go to the drawing board!!

I agree entirely, but also sympathize with BMW. They have to count beans. They need to segment their products. They will not cannibalize one product line at the expense of the other. And remember, they are not in the business of making dreams come true, or satisfying the needs of the minority in the group, but rather being a profitable auto maker, while appealing to a global audience of consumers.

So really, I get why they do that. But it is heartbreaking for sure.

Sillier things have been said! Sillier things have been said. SMH.

"I'm never buying a BMW without heated steering wheel again!"

"The heads-up display is a must have option!"

"The adaptive LED lighting system saved my freakin' marriage!"

And so on and so forth, ...

Speculation

All that has been mentioned in terms of spec is everything people have seen on the Mules that are driving around. I don't believe that any spec sheets have been given out or a dealer has ordered a car before the concept has even been released.. so don't believe everything you read its just speculation.

seats could be standard too and that's why you don't see it as an option

Sure, the seats will be standard equipment. I'm just hoping the seat covers hide something updated over the blue stitching!

You know that just because someone doesn't buy an m2, doesn't mean they will buy an f80/2? In fact, I would say that most won't.

So I don't understand "the strategy", nor do I actually believe this is what Bmw is trying to do.

I think they are trying to sell this car, and not use it in some complex fashion to force people to buy an f80.

They're trying to avoid this headline when the car comes out:

"BMW creates its own M3/M4 killer"

The M3/M4 is still the flagship and will be the better value for money vs the M2. They don't want it to take the spotlight except when being compared against its in class rivals like RS3, CLA45 AMG, etc...

Haven't read through the entire thread carefully, but there should be no real surprises with this options list. Thanks for the info!

I post on some sports forums and during the offseason there are a lot of posts criticizing/complaining, since everyone is antsy for the next season to start. That's kind of the stage we're in now since we just don't know everything and since we've been waiting for a reveal for a while now. After we get a full technical and exterior/interior reveal, we'll move onto another stage of criticisms (the "regular season" so to speak) and you're right, that's what the discussion board is for
Definitely agree that this forum would be useless if everyone agreed on the same thing.

This is where I feel like I'm different than some of the members here. I'm much more focused on things that matter to me (aka the driving experience) than some of the fluff. Black wheels only? No problem. M235i seats only? Fine. No CF roof? I'll live.

Now if I find out tomorrow that the M2 is not getting the same EPS system as the M3/4, you'll hear me raise hell.

I guess my point is that cars are all about compromises. There's no such thing as the perfect car (including Ferraris and Mclarens). Is the M2 a perfect car? No, and everyone will agree. But for a lot of us that are so passionate about it, it hits the sweet spot on so many other things. I just get tired of people moaning about the dumbest things (not you btw).

My 2 cents

Sunroof/moonroof has not been confirmed yet, but there was a prototype with it.

No doubt. You can even have a moonroof delete on the regular 2ers. So you'll definitely be able to have it on the M2.

Keep in mind we're looking at the euro options list. They might be packaged differently in the US version. IIRC for the US 1M, nav was a package upgrade and we don't get adaptive headlights or rear tinted glass in the US.

The options seem fair. I would definitely prefer silver wheels. Worst case if they only offered black it shouldn't be that difficult to swap for silver OEM's from the F8X.

Moonroof delete would be nice. Although would it be worth it if the weight savings are negligible?

LBB or MG for me.

Still need concrete info on curb weight to decide.

Well, I believe the rear seats lose an inch or two of headroom if you decide to go with the moonroof

Garage List
I am wondering if there will be an adaptive suspension. Seems like they will stick with the "normal" M suspension so far, which is fine for me!

Also consider the non-negligible mass loss from the highest point of the car (incl. glass panel, motors, tracks/associated hardware). No moonroof for me, please.

Moreover, for those concerned about the (apparent) lack of adaptive damping, keep in mind that the folks over on the F8x forums who didn't check that option seem to be very happy with the standard setup. I'd imagine the M2 getting the same treatment with respect to springs/dampers.

Um... aftermarket solves all your problems. You may want to check out the cosmetic modification and wheels & tires section of the forum. Its kind of silly to buy a completely different car because of wheel and exterior colors.

People seem to find the standard suspension just fine in the M3/4. However, it is between sport and sport+, which is interesting.
