lower tire pressures for wider tire setup?

From my understanding, the contact patch area of a tire can be calculated by dividing the weight of the vehicle by tire pressure.

Example: 3500lbs / 35psi = 100 sq in
(4 tires each at 25 sq in)

Does this mean to take advantage of a 255/275 or 265/285 setup you must run lower pressures than a 245/265 setup to actually increase grip?

I'd say try and see how they perform, I run 31-32 all round using 9.5/10.5 with stock tyres 245/265. The balance will be sidewall stiffness, camber rolling at the edges and overall suspension and wheel compliance. I usually end up preferring a little less than 'recommended' and make sure I pump them up, if I feel the need to do 150 mph for hours with a heavy family of 4 on the Autobahn.

No wait, I don't go to Germany and dont have a family of four
