I support this 100% and I believe it's doable with a tuning suite once the DME is unlocked. Of course you know who to go to for all of that (Enabled, in case you didn't).

I finally got around to doing this coding this week. First off, I want to thank Ratkiller for asking the question! I was amongst the naysayers initially (why would you need this? The gear lever will always tell you what gear you're in!), but then I did remember that sometimes while cruising you space out and notice the revs are a little higher than you think they should be and ask "what gear am I in?". Also in stock form (in my CS at least) once you get to 6th gear there's just an empty square in the gage cluster and it kinda looks dumb. Having it show a 6 there is a small upgrade imo!
Thank you Enabled for figuring this out! I got the biggest coding scare when I hit apply in Bimmercode on this when it errored out and my dash said I had a retractable roof malfunction! Luckily, a restore, reseating of the OBD module and a retry worked a charm. |

Enabled any updates on the OG m2? I'm taking my m2 out next week and could test any updates.

As much as I don't think it's needed, id make the changes too if og gets sorted out.
I got used to just having that space be blank, but something even remotely useful would still be an upgrade... |

Still working on it!
It's very likely in the manner that the DME sends out the data to the network and the cluster, which makes it unique and challenging. I find it interesting that the S55 control is a little different in reporting it.

You’ve solved a huge pain point for me. Thank you Enabled for gifting everyone this amazing find!
Confirming this worked flawlessly on my 2020 M2 Comp. I did get an odd date/time error at first, but I just disabled/enabled via idrive and it’s all back to normal. BMW should’ve included this from the factory, end of story.

It would be nice to replace the gear suggestions with an actual gear indicator.

I go to the “Instrument Cluster” in expert mode, scroll down to lines of text that start “SPA_ENABLE change to nicht …..” and do what? Will those two lines of text already be there and I’m just clicking on them to enable or disable? Or do I need to create and fully type those two lines of text as shown above? And how does “3003 FZG_Ausstatung” play into the whole thing? What’s that? Last edited by Swish77; 07-15-2023 at 08:41 AM.. |

I have some mild progress (likely only via DME tune), but ideally, I need to flash a few variations to test and identify the changes required. The DME control bytes are a bit different in the tune in M2C vs N55 M2.
Ideally I wish I had one locally to do some tune fast flashes over 45 seconds to test!

My cars in bits right now as I install my mmi system + rewire my dash camera, so there's no battery plugged in so I avoid an air bag rearranging my face.

I believe that'll do it! Because Enabled can tune via bm3.

Once in "Instrument Cluster" and expert mode, find the header "3003 FZG-Ausstatung" and click into it. Then scroll down to find those two lines of text, which are right next to each other, and click into each one of them separately to change the setting and "back" afterward. There are only two options on each line, so just change it to the other option. Click "code" and voila. (This stuff might seem obvious to guys who code a lot, but I get lost, and I'm also nervous I'm going to screw up the electronics on the car.) The only thing I needed to do after the re-coding was reset my dash clock in iDrive settings. Thanks! Enabled for President! |
