Creaking seats
Took delivery a few weeks ago. Just shy of 500 miles now. Creak from the front drivers seat is driving me nuts. Sounds like it’s coming from upright portion and when under increased load (ingress, acceleration) only. Road surface doesn’t seem to cause the noise. I worry about having a seat taken apart by the dealer given that the seats arrive fully assembled to BMW prior to install. Murphy’s law will leave me with a creak elsewhere if pieces come out for inspection/repair. This a common, easy fix? Do I request a new seat? Your thoughts, please.

I had the same - Pull the seat back forward as if you are getting into the back seat, that should reset whatever was rubbing. I did that and it never came back, must of just been that seat position.

I had the same issue. The leather from the top part of the seat was tight against the center console and rubbing. I pulled the seat forward, stuck a piece of Velcro on the center console (soft side) so the two don't rub.

I've have this as well. Seems like the right seat bolster is rubbing against the center console compartment area. When you examine the area closely the seat and plastic/console lid are basically touching. If you lean away during driving it stops or wedging my hand in between the seats and the console plastic, it stops. As others have said, moving the seat back and forth for a bit seems to cure the issues. I'm drunk. Hope this makes sense. Cheers.

As others have suggested, put a piece is soft side Velcro there to eliminate the noise. Interestingly my M2C came with this tape installed on the seat belt clip on both sides. I've had squeaking/noise issues in my F10 in this area where this was the fix. Now it looks like BMW is proactively adding these to the M2C at the factory. Tape in this location may not fix your issue, but could also be a source of the squealing. Mine is an October 2019 build

In case you can't locate creaks in the seat:
Typically if it's not the seat, it's definitely the armrest making those sounds, in which case try pushing it to fully forward position and it will eliminate creaking. |

I’ve had similar issues with on of my trucks. It seemed minor, but when I took it in for service, I brought it up. Both times they found the problem oddly enough. So if you can’t find a solution, bring it up at service. I understand the concern about the seat though. Good luck.
I’m curious to what the fix will be. |

I tried manipulating the seat back a few times, and inserting a soft cloth between the seat and the console, however the sound persists. Seems to be coming from almost dead center in the middle of the upright portion of the seat.

I try to isolate the source of the friction and dab/wedge some of this OEM sunroof grease (doesn't have an odor), where necessary, to eliminate such sounds. Works well, thus far.. . |

If it's something beyond a simple DIY, then I guess it's best a dealer address it. |

Another option is to try Krytox Grease. It's on the pricey side but can be applied to leather and no discoloration. It works great for the center console and seat rubbing issue. I prefer this over felt or Velcro tape since you don't see the tape and it has less chance of coming apart. The Krytox can be ordered on Amazon

Perhaps I’m just picky, but this seat is leaving me without desire to drive the damn thing. I’ll take it for 1200 mile service in a few weeks but what a poor start to what’s been described as an otherwise great vehicle (sounds like the heat shield is now rattling at low RPM under gentle load too). Spent some time today pressing on various parts of the seat and while I before noted that it sounded like it was seat back, I can reproduce by pressing on the seat bottom. Mind you, I’m no tub of lard, but this seat should be able to handle a 220lb amigo, no? Wtf?!?
Perhaps I got the Monday or Friday crew. |

Seat / Console creak
There is a TSB on it - at least here in Oz. I have covered in another post. As stated by some-one above, seat is hard up against console in certain positions. I'd read elsewhere the M4 seats are really too wide for M2 and BMW did not mount closer to door due to side impact - can't be sure of that.
TSB instructs to apply a large piece (say 12" x 5") of 3mm thick felt that is glued to the side of the console - a bit shabby really. This worked initially however dealer placed this just below the horizontal ridge of the console so as the felt pile wore down the creaking returned and I was back to stuffing a cloth there. At the 1 yr service I asked to fix again and they repositioned the patch up onto the ridge line. Better for now - we'll see over time but the seat trim will wear due to the constant contact at that point. I suspect this is why seats have Alcantara on sides. |

I have experienced what I believe is a similar noise to what the original poster for this thread has. I too felt that this noise was one of the things that made me least happy about my car... Based on previous experiences with noises and creaks, feeling that when I've asked the dealership to address the problems they can't locate or identify what I'm experiencing, I go to great lengths to remedy these creaks myself.
Although the plastic in the center console creaks a little when coming in contact with seat, this was not the noise that was bothering me. I have removed the plastic seat back on 3 separate occasions and applied an extensive amount of felt tape and foam weather stripping to all of the potential metal/plastic and plastic/plastic contact points. Each time, it seems to improve the creaking noise temporarily, but ends up creeping back after a period of time. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1357315 (I know these are ZCP seats in the M2 comp, but it's very similar save the cutouts) Instructions for seatback removal: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...7&postcount=35 I've found that a lot of the creaking has to do with the styrofoam piece surrounding the airpump for the lumbar support rubbing against plastic and metal on the right side of the seat. Taking the seatback off can be kind of intimidating at first bc you feel like you may rip the plastic clips off the upholstery, but to this point it has held strong. It may be worth a shot to give this a try if you are so inclined. The last time I removed it was about a month ago, and to this point it has been nice and quiet. I think BMW makes really nice quality products with an overall solid feel(this is my second one), but in my experience I don't think they pay as much attention to interior creak and rattle isolation as Audi and MB (I've owned all three brands), especially in the lower end models. Maybe I've just been lucky with creaks and rattles with the other brands. |
