Auto folding mirrors when parking

Got a 2019 M2C and at the moment I have to press the button for the mirrors to retract. Surely these can be programmed to automatically retract when parking?

Has to be done with coding. See bimmer code.

I don't know which button you're pressing to retract mirrors. However if you're using the retract mirrors button next to the side mirrors adjustments. You can consider the following options if you're not wanting to go down the bimmer code route.

1. Use your remote and press and hold the lock button for 2s. Depending on region, this may be of range 0 - 2s.
2. I have comfort access so I lock/unlock my car using the door handle. Placing my finger on the triple parallel line first locks it and if you continue to place your finger their for another 2 seconds. It should collapse the mirror.

Advantage of doing it this way is that you don't have to remember to unfold your mirrors. And you get the option when you actually want to retract and auto unfold. Some people do worry about the folding mirror motors wearing out - me not so much.

It's not a thing. He is describing the behavior of a coded car without realizing it.

BimmerCode

Fold/unfold mirrors automatically

The mirrors are folded automatically when the car is locked with the remote control or Comfort Access and unfolded again when the car is unlocked. Please note that your car has to be equipped with power folding mirrors for this option to work. Use a backup to revert this coding once it has been applied.

Values:
  • Active
For this option the following control unit has to be available in the car: “Front Electronic Module” FEM_01

Sorry I was under the impression that anyone's car with electric folding mirror will have this feature coded with delayed folding mirror when pressing and holding the lock button. My region is New Zealand.

However the OP wanted it to fold whenever s/he locks and unlock whenever s/he unlocks the car. This unfortunately requires coding as far as I know.

So let me get this straight, in US you can opt for electric folding mirror and factory coding in US does not enable delayed mirror folding via lock?

Mine was an ex demo car and either a 2 second remote or 2 second pause on comfort access folds the mirrors with no coding.

I am in the UK and something about USA legislation stops this being factory enabled springs to mind along with roll up of the windows etc.

Could be wrong but it seems familiar

I haven't tried the finger on the lines on the handle (cause I'm at work), but holding the lock did not work. US spec 2020 M2C w/Exec package.

Mine definitely works from factory both remote and comfort access. Do your windows and sunroof it fitted close if lock is held in the same way? This is standard on UK models and has been for some time with no coding required.

If your car is locked in the UK and is a coupe I.e. a 2er single press unlock and it's normal but a double press half rolls down the window to ease access if your close to a wall as the doors are so long then rolls the window back up when you close the door. Is this a USA thing too?

Pain when it's raining (all the time in the UK) and your running at the car panick unlocking like press press press and then the damn windows half open

Negative. Must be a country thing then. Pressing the lock multiple times does nothing for the windows. Nissan's in the US do the window thing, by holding down the unlock it'll roll the windows down until you let go, but they won't roll up by holding lock. Either way, on the BMW none of that works, in the US, for me at least.

The auto-fold feature is decoded on the US-spec F-Series vehicles, which I assume is to preserve the components from unnecessary wear and possible warranty claims.

There is no regulations on the books to prevent auto-folding mirrors from being active, in the US. In fact, I knew of someone with a 2006 Mercedes 550, which had auto power-folding mirrors, stock. I vaguely remember being impressed by it.

It's one of those corporate cutbacks that makes no sense, since now all new US-spec G-Series BMWs have a option in iDrive menu, to activate it, without coding but for some reason the H & F-Series got shafted, by not enabling this feature without some kind of subterfuge.

This has got to be the dumbest thing I've seen. Thanks BMW.

I want to code 2 things for my M2, auto folding mirrors, and easy-out seat. The rest I doubt I will use. Don't wanna spend the money for it yet tho, so I guess I will just have to keep hitting that fold-button every time I get in or out.

It's really not that expensive to get an OBDII dongle and the app.

In the US, pressing and holding either the remote or comfort access panel will close windows that are open. They do not engage mirror folding.

Coding is the only US route.

This. All in should be under $100, can't remember the price of the app, but the dongle was around $20.

Coded it on day 1 of owning the car, and I had coded it on my 340. At this point, my brain only believes the car is locked if I can see folded car ears.

Lol, you don't wanna spend under $60 to code a $60,000 car.

Almost as good as that one guy who wouldn't buy a M2C just because Apple Car Play wasn't free.

I never post, but I simply must say THANK YOU!
All this time I was so frustrated with not being able to fold mirrors automatically. And I couldn't be bothered to fiddle with bimmercode.
