I agree and I agree. But when I first got behind the wheel of my M4, I thought bmw sold their souls to the devil and made a rather ridiculously fast car. With a few mods they are monstrously fast in a straight line, but that being said on the track or fun country road they lack the luster of the previous high revving NA cars.

Haha is your M4 insecurity flaring up? They have some ointment for that it does wonders for the body roll and the general floating in a boat like feel.

Most M2 owners have the option of buying a barely used M4 for the same price as a new M2. It’s not all about straight line speed. That’s all I was trying to say.

Your goal is to be able to go fast in a straight line. Some people want to actually be able to take a corner or two.
Nope. No insecurity here. I bought the better car

Just having some fun at the expensive of the M2. I've driven it on a track. My wife was a fan. Me not so much Ouch

Probably a couple of years before I'll make the move, but torn between an M2 and M3. I love videos like this, but I'm wondering how the M3 and M4 perform against each other. Same engine, but weight & handling differences of note? I love teh utility of having a sedan, but I've been considering an M2 and a winter-beater truck.
I had the same debate. But I’m going M3 strictly because I need the other doors. My good friend hd the same debate but now has a M2 incoming (Week 32).

Ya something funny with the M2 numbers. Though I fully expected it to come in last.

The recent vid of the M2 holding its own against the GT350 on the track is what really pushed me more to the M2.

Then again, the utility of having the M3 (as a dude with kids who could use the extra 2 doors) while still having a formidable M car is what is still drawing me to the M3.

I love seeing posts like this because it progresses the discussion.

Yes. In all fairness. I like both cars. The M2 was great on a smaller track and the M3/4 on a larger track. Can't go wrong with either car.

The M2 CS is where it's at but it's gonna be annoying stupid to try and get one

I thought I was pretty clear I didn't think my car was fast in a straight line? Neither is the M2, that was my point lol.

I'm really torn with my car because I love it so and there's simply nothing new I'd replace it with short of $100k. I might look into an ESS 525 kit for it next Spring and then just drive it until it completely falls apart.

M2 DCT does 12.5-12.7 in 1/4 mile. It should've tied other cars in 1/4 drag race.

Once again, it's shameful for some journalist to make manual vs DCT race. There is no point in doing that as you don't know how many times get lost in shifting, which is normally many.

N55 with DCT FBO can become an M killer with proper tune and mods. This is on stock turbo.

If you've owned M cars before, the current M3/M4 is disappointing. I know many people who ended up selling theirs and going back to the e9x. It's frustrating to see that BMW had to come out with the CP package just to correct all the issues with the first version. If I already didn't own an e36, I would definitely have gotten a M2. Small, fun, and nimble. The car is everything the e36 and e46 was and more.

If you think the M3/m4 is disappointing then you don't know how to drive. And I had one along with e90 and e46.

Saved me some money though, more years in the Z4M ahead!
You obviously did not have enough seat time in that car.

I liked better the vid where they compared the track times.
These drag races are somehow ... pointless...
If you're interested in this kind of races you can start with the new M5. Stock is pretty fast, with a tune will be a weapon

Agreed. Also something I'm torn on. I've had manual Bimmers since my first 325i in 2004. Much more fun and connected to the road, but it doesn't hold its own against today's DCT's.

If they put the S55 in a brand new $50k car who’s buying the brand new $70k car? (the M4)

A lot less people.
Plenty of people like the M4 because of what is .. a mini 6 series.

Also.. it all depends on how many of the M2 with S55 are available. .. and I can already tell you .. there won't be many. Even if BMW is selling 2000 M2 a year right now.. ( and more likely that's a pipe dream) .. how many of those will be an M2 CS next year ? Even if everyone decided to get an M2 CS next year and they made 2000... bmw has already sold 76,000
M3 and M4.. ... that's at least 10,000 a year so far... so you tell me how all those M3 and M4 buyers are gonna get an M2?

This is why the M2 is a limited production vehicle. BMW is NOT making as many as they could sell. They are making as many as they want. And they clearly WANT to sell M3 and M4.

Agree 1 million percent.

it's absolutely pointless to compare manual vs automatics and has been for about 80 years

The M2 is far more hamstrung in this race by the missing Turbo and 65hp than the gearbox, but you won't have much longer to wait to really see an interesting heads up comparison when the M2 CS is pitted against an M4 ZCP.

Of course .. all the journalists will probably find a 6 MT ZCP..

Interesting in the drag race the M4 actually overtook the M5 and came in first.

M5/6 with its massive power should be harder to launch but in the video the M5 clearly was ahead of the M4 at launch but then the M4 ran past it.

Don't know track condition but maybe the M5 also had wheel spin in 2nd and 3rd gear, otherwise it's really strange how the M4 pulled ahead of both the M5 and M6.
