KW V3 Noise from Rear
I’ve had KW V3 on my M2C for about a year (10k kms). I bought the set used so I can’t say for sure how many miles are on them, but I’d say they’re due for a rebuild.
Ever since I first installed them, there were noises coming from the rear; they sound like something is hitting a sheet metal. The shop that did the install told me that I have the early version of KW V3’s, which is prone to have these noises in the rear, but the noise has become louder and more frequent over time. Anyone else have experience this issue? Could it be due to the shocks getting old and stiffening up this creating more noise?

Most common reason for noise from the rear shocks, the clamp nut for the piston inside the damper is coming loose. Most dampers peen the end of the shaft the piston clamping nut threads onto, so it's not likely to come apart entirely, but it will make noise during operation in addition to not working properly.
Worst case, the damper comes completely apart internally and locks up the free movement of the damper causing that corner to stop moving and putting all the force of the suspension into the body of the car. Best case, it just annoys you until you fix it. |
