So the real M days are behind us seems like it. More details are needed but I was hoping for S or B engine not an old N55. Something tells me M-arketing is affraid of M3 sales canibalization. Thanks for the news Jason!

So there's no chance it will eventually get the S48 engine instead of the N55?
I know BMW made a good decision choosing the N55 over the S48 but in 2 years time will there be no more room to make the S48 worthy for the M2? |

Not sure why there are even complaints about the engine used. Anyone complaining now about the use of the N54 in the 1M? For those questioning the use of the N55, what did you think BMW was going to use? A bespoke engine? No. Or would you rather they use a next gen inline 4? I would have liked to see the reaction to that...

Exactly!!! Especially if they're going to be asking 50-60k for this thing.... 400/400 hp/trq would be amazing out of an S48! Dangerous for the M3/4 but not too dangerous.....

I am very excited and confused at the same time. Makes no sense to N55 power this as the M235 with a tune will have the same output for far cheaper. Should have an S derived motor. Hopefully it comes DCT

I understand that its gonna have an M Chassis but if its same engine as 235i
and why N55 if the B58 is coming on LCI 335i in 2015. why not S58 ?

Great news but I wish it had an detuned s55 motor! Since its a turbo motor it would be easy to achieve this.
During the e46 M3 time didn't BMW put the detuned s54 M3 engine into the Z3 M and later the Z4 M?? The M2 would be much more special with an S55 engine!

Let's just be thrilled the M2 is coming and we know the timeframe... screw the F80/2 I am waiting on the F87
I personally would have loved the S48 but maybe it's coming shortly after launch or in LCI form... unless limited numbers force the N55 acceptance that way if limited a lot of us don't get left out on the opportunity I love turbo'd 2.0 engines very punchy and compact The news of the year |

Awesome news.
Not sure about the use of the N55 though - my guess is that significant work would need to be done to make the internals "safe" at 380 BHP... But if they make it look like the render above, it's gonna look great.

You do know that the new m3/4 is using pretty much a N55 just with 2 turbo's right? If they're getting 365 hp from the n55 that's a good thing to know on our end.

Nooice!
The inline 6 keeps it at the top of my list. An i4 turbo would have still made a compelling argument in terms of weight reduction, but I'm a snob like that. I want my inline 6. M2 vs Cayman S ... GO! |

How in the hell are they going to get to 380 BHP without doing a whole lot more than that???
