What do you think it will weigh? Seems to me it will be the closest thing to a modern e36 we have ever seen. I hope it is the track beast it looks to be.

Saying the 1M is more of an M car than the M3 is just ignorant and all around stupid.

Is it possible that Bmw have hurry to get M2 on markets? So they just throw S48 to trash can and put N55 on M2. No long hot climate or winter tests etc.
Somehow I wanted to see six cylinder NA engine. S54 whit all new technology. |

If you search the forum, you will see that I was the one who first reported on S55 in M3/4, being wrong only with the horsepower numbers.

If I recall correctly the Car and Driver article said 3200 pounds, with Carbon Fiber roof, and heavy use of Aluminum and Magnesium.

I feel dumber for having read the comments in this thread...especially the ones about the "cheap" n55 engine.

I kind of like this idea. If the engine is a fantastic one, why not use it in several platforms and you pick the size of the car?

Me too, but the light weight car you and I want won't come from the 2 series. The 2 series weighs 3500 pounds. What exactly would you do to shave 500 -700 pounds from it? Not possible. So instead, be happy for a silky smooth inline 6. If they can tweak it to make it better than the regular N55, it should be a great car!

M235i weighs 3500 or 3540 with auto trans. Not light by any means. I'll keep my 3500lb 335is. |

Similar "S-ifying" of the N20 would make for a much more unique motor than an N55. |
