stepping back from the performance comparison, one should just look at the current members in the e8X/f2X and m3/m4 forums. there are marked differences in the general age and $$ of forum members... there are of course exceptions IMO even if M2 is as good as M3/M4, both cars would still appeal to the different members of the various forums and the public in general. No obsolescence but just great news for us BMW enthusiasts

Maybe just partially, there will still be people that want the M4 as a bigger car and those want the smaller M2.

Exactly, many people want a bigger car for their briefcases, golf bags and more room to move around while wearing a suit, and entertaining friends, etc.

While many want a small nimble car, focused on handling & agility.

The two cars have a completely different focus.

I believe so, yes. I am sure lots of potential M4 buyers are waiting on the sidelines until the M2 is released.

I do not understand why anyone would want a bigger sports coupe. Sedan, maybe. But coupe?

+1

M2 or M6; M3, M5, or M7 (if it existed). M4 now seems redundant, neither this nor that.
