PDK may be smoother and better in certain ways, etc, but DCT is a PHENOMENAL transmission, and thus far, I am hoping to continue on it. The next gen G80 M3 will have manual or ZF automatic, so between those I likely would choose manual, but DCT has been nothing short of great for me, and certainly agree that it is one of the best transmissions out there.
I own a DCT, I think it is amazing too. I was just surprised to hear a reviewer say it, usually they still argue the manual is the better choice. I don’t know if I’ve heard anyone praise it as much as him. I believe he said it was on supercar levels. My only complaint about the DCT is driving around town at slower speeds it isn’t incredibly smooth, or doesn’t know what gear it wants to be in. I would have bought a manual if I didn’t own a s2000. Overall I’m very happy with the DCT.
DCT jerks from stop to start if you press the paddle too quickly. Have to be gentle. Otherwise it is so quick and smooth, it literally feels like I'm in a rocket ship.

When in stop and go traffic put it in manual and 2nd gear, no more jerking.

He doesn't want to show how fast he's speeding on a back road. He is showing still that he hit around 7k RPMs in 4th though, which equates to around 120mph.

It's the difference between the police being able to convict you with a picture vs having to get an expert witness to to study the video and then testify that the car is in 4th gear at 7000rpms and therefore speeding.

You absolutely can be as precise on the brakes. Its just much much more difficult to do so while heel and toeing.

Do whatever makes you happiest. There is nothing wrong with going to the track with the singular purpose of being as fast as possible.

But its not why I race at the track. My singular purpose is to have as much fun as possible. So yeah, i'm out there double clutching my damn heel and toe downshifts. Is it as fast? nope. Does it feel amazing when i downshift into the next gear with no mechanical resistance through the shifter and no discernible drivetrain shock when i let the clutch out? Yes it does. Do i nail my downshifts 100 percent of the time? Nope. There's frequently a tiny bit of drivetrain wiggle when i let out the clutch.

Maybe its easy for you, maybe you're a better driver. I'm totally okay with that. I'm just saying for me, its not "easy" to be perfect every time and until it is, i'm gonna keep chasing that dragon.

Because again, the entire point of spending all this money on cars is to have fun. And fun to me is nailing that man-machine connection, not seeing a marginally smaller number next to my lap time at the end of the day.

But I'm not competitive like some people. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the destination more than the journey. Do what brings you the most joy, as much as it might sound like i'm dismissing your post i'm not, you're out there driving fast and living your best life. Enjoy it, just understand that others enjoy the same thing as you in a totally different way.

Does this not affect the clutches negatively in some way, long-term wise?

Compared to the 2015 M3, the M2C DCT feels sooooo much better. Not as jerky in traffic.

All the reviews of the Civic describe it as a brilliant manual transmission but plenty of owners have had issues and I wonder sometimes if media kind of avoids being critical of this stuff because they badly want the manual transmission to remain relevant as they will always point out the flaws in a DCT or other Auto transmission but rarely will they pick apart a manual transmission. Heck several posters here seem to believe the M2 manual transmission isn't very good but have you ever seen a single review where the reviewer said anything bad about it?
The Honda 6 Speed is definitely a better gear box vs BMW's.

I chose the DCT over the BMW stick because it mates better with a Turbo engine.

Well said. Between a decent manual transmission and an excellent automatic transmission, I prefer the second one.
It's not a matter of performance, with an high-torque turbo engine the manual doesn't work well because of a lag in gear shifting and the inertia of heavy flywheel, this is not a NA high-rev engine
That said, enjoy your beast, this is a great car with any transmission you have chosen

Go drive the Civic Type R or a 3 year old ILX stick.

It's better than anything BMW has ever made.

Like a hot knife through butter.

No. Had a 335is w/DCT for nearly eight years. Did this all the time, never had an issue.

I'm sure I'm not the first to mention this but I find it interesting that he notes the car feels like it has 50/60 hp too much???

Doesn't that put it around the original one?

I don't understand people sometimes.

I've owned several Hondas and as with the Miata it's easy to make a smooth manual transmission for a low torque engine as has been the case for Hondas forever up until the Civic Type R. Even at that Honda manuals while smooth have always had grinding issues and weak syncros. I bought a Civic Type R and backed out when it was delivered and bought the M2 instead as 2nd gear wasn't smooth on my test drive and after going through major MT82 issues with my Mustang I simply won't buy manual transmission cars that have problematic transmissions as it totally ruins the experience of owning the car. The M2 manual transmission while a bit rubbery gets the job done fine and is pretty reliable.

A lot of those Honda owners like to bang gears.

The M2 is Lightyears ahead of that civic r.

Nice choice ‼️

I had a 2008 Civic Si DD and that manual was sublime! It felt like precision machinery compared to every BMW MT I have owned.
