My amp is toast - which fuse to pull to stop crackling and popping sounds

Can I get help on which fuse to pull for a toasted amp? I tried to get answers in the audio forum but there is almost no activity there. Please help. I'm in a 17' M2. Thank you.

Look in your trunk under the floor for the fuse panel, there should be a card that tells you which fuses to pull, and where they are. I've just been down this road recently with mine, getting the amp replaced next week.

Mine's an '18 so I won't tell you exactly which fuses in case it's different, but there were about 5 x 5amp fuses, a couple under the hood, the rest in the trunk. You can try them one at a time until you figure out which ones will do the trick.

Good luck!

I've got a stock HK amp that's been sitting in my basement for a few years collecting dust. If you're interested in a replacement let me know would be happy to work out a reasonable deal.

Apparently they just fail for no reason what-so-ever because they are crap. My car is only 9 months old and all my sound just stopped working completely last week. Going to be replaced under warranty with a new amp, but I already have an aftermarket one on the way.

There is a whole thread on it in one of the other categories:

mine luckily acted up right while I was passing the dealership. So I drove it straight there and they gave me a rental.

I got this issue too on my 2018 LCI. It took about 2 months to my BMW garage to fix the issue under warranty: 2 weeks to get a first appointment, they tried a software solution, the issue came back a few days later, then came the Christmas holidays, then I had to wait two more weeks for a second appointment to replace the amp... They did not propose me a replacement car, so I had to keep driving my car with this f***ing amp killing my ears regularly.
One month later, a damper of my expansive Mperf suspension broke, and here again it took ages to have it replaced by my BMW garage. When I brought them the car, they failed to notice that the damper was broken and diagnosed broken silent blocks... They fixed me an appointment 2 weeks later, and then they realized their error. It took them one month to get the replacement dampers from Germany, and 1 more week to repair my car. And, of course, they did not apologize for anything, while I had to drive a car with a broken damper for nearly 2 months.

Conclusion based on my overall car experience: BMW cars used to be great two decades ago, but now they are less reliable than much cheaper cars like VW, Skoda, Peugeot, etc. And BMW service sucks...

And yet I'm still in love with my M2...

Try Fuse 122. That one's in the trunk under the trunk liner.

Its the GREEN 30 amp one.

Before it was easy to code out ASD a few guys would pull this fuse to ensure they liked no ASD better before spending $50 on a bypass cable. Almost ALL liked it better.

Perfect and many, many thanks. BTW, now that the car is at the dealer, the amp seems to be working just fine. They are keeping it one more day since they did not find any codes.

It was staticy with lots of popping and crackling sounds. No audio sound at all and no ability to change audio sources or shut the unit down.

Sounds a lot like what happened to mine, it lost all sound, and I took it to the dealer right away. They told me the amp was toast, and set up an appointment to replace it once the new part arrived.

Couple days later it spontaneously started working again, but they still replaced it. The day after it was installed I received the aftermarket one from Bavsound and swapped it out, so now I have a brand new one as a spare.

If you can afford it, I have to say the aftermarket amp is way better, and I definitely don't regret replacing the stock one with it. Don't think it is necessary to upgrade the speakers either, the stock ones seem to be plenty good enough now that they are actually getting enough power.

Just noticed this with my 19 m2c, every time I would hit a bump it would pop and buzz with static sounds. Now when I drive it just happens so regularly that I've gotten more than enough videos to share with the dealer once my appointment comes up, I've had an 17 m240i and an 18 m3comp with zero issues! Sucks that things like this happen on a brand new car.

Finally had the dealer fix this issue. They threw a new amp in. Parts and labor would have been $2,200 if I had to pay out of pocket for the repair. Everything works fine now.

Wow, that's a ton of $$$. How much was the amp v. the labor? On the surface it looks like a pretty simple swap out, like 20 minutes work.

Glad you're in good shape again.

The amp was about $1,800. Then there was labor and a programming fee. Programming was around $200 or so.

Mine failed at about seven months in which sucks because I've had two other bmw's that were flawless. I'm getting it serviced today and have also managed to get more than a handful of videos of the hissing and random popping. It's only through the rear right speaker.
