Really depends on the person too. While people talk about modding it's really of no interest to me. Whether I had the OG or not I'm not going to tune or do anything more major than an exhaust.

I don't think fuel economy is too bad either, I just wish we had a bigger gas tank. Comparing the same commute I had with the B58 in my 440i compared to the S55 in my M2C I only get 2 mpg worse. I could go an extra week (5 days, ~22 mile round trip) in the 440i before I had to fill up.

Modding is super fun, making it what it ought to be...

If you watching feul economy then defin stay with a mainstream engine, not the s55

Or you can always keep a 25l Jerrycan in the trunk 😁 😂 😁

Modding is a lot of fun, I don't deny it, but sometimes it's easier to just upgrade to a better platform (N55 to S55) without the real need to void warranty or drive something potentially unreliable

I've done exhaust, intake and a few cosmetics. Before I'm touching the engine I'm going to give coilovers a try. I just don't feel like the M2C needs more power though tbh, unless maybe you're tracking it, because to me 410hp for the type of chassis is extremely generous.

I think you're right. The stock M2C chassis can barely handle the CS+ tune. Stage 1 feels like too much for the chassis. You'd need bigger tires and coilovers for stage 1.

By fueling issues on the N55 I don't mean fuel economy lol and if you guys need to ask to explain than it just solidifies my assumption.

Agree as he is comparing the stock N55 (M235) engine not the M2 variant as your title suggests. There are a few errors if you're relying on this video for factual information about the differences between the M2 & M2C engines.

Technically you're correct but let's not act like the N55 variant in the M2 was a revolutionary transformation

From what I can remember the only upgrades the M2 got over the M235i (engine-wise) was: slightly modified pistons, magnesium oil pan, an improved oiling system and a couple other things like different manifold or crank bearings.

There are differences, sure, and that's why I'm telling you that you're technically correct (and I added a note on the OP) but since the majority of the engine components stay the same , the video is still good information.

Everyone here is forgetting that the S55 stock is a track beast and the N55 has some cooling issues.

As others have said the M2C is like an M2CS (over the OG M2) without the CS premium. Whats not to love?

The OG M2 missed the B58 boat because BMW was going to be putting a factory tuned B58 in the M240 and the M2 would need even more power than the M240 and BMW was not able to verify/certify the track reliability of the B58 in a higher performance chassis yet. I believe the biggest concerns being oiling pressure under high Gs and the liquid/air intercooler with additional power.

As an M235 owner for over 4 years, I absolutely love the 2 series chassis and have been very happy with the car and the differences modifications make. I absolutely want an M2. However, I'm the odd ball because I want the OG M2 N55, not the M2C with the S55. With the M2C you absolutely get a faster car with better brakes and better seats. What I like about the OG M2 is its running costs and long-term reliability. It does not use the larger brakes, rotors, and more expensive brake pads or the far more complex motor. The N55 is very simple compared to the S55. With the M2C, you really do get the cost of "M" ownership with the brakes and motor as it's a true M car. The spun hub issue, while rare, is also very scary and expensive if it were to happen. The S55s also have a history of the intercooler leaking coolant straight into the motor. Yikes.

The N55 in my M235 has been great. It's fairly easy to work on for a BMW motor, the intercooling is simple and easy to upgrade, parts relatively cheap compared to something like the S55, and it was the last N55 of generation so most of the issues were either addressed and/or are very well understood.

Lastly, I don't recall much argument with the 1M and its lack of a true M motor (simply a tuned and slightly beefed up N54) The OG M2 destroys it in every contest, as it should.

I've had 2 N55 and 1 N54 car in the last few years

They are all superb and I enjoyed them immensely
