Two steps for me. I paid my dealer to upgrade the software in my OG 2017 M2. NBT went from "H" to "S". Contacted kubax86 and set the process in place to inject the full-screen Carplay. Super easy. Well documented. Definite two thumbs up for kubax86.
Added an image. Full-screen waze (nice almost perfect lbb blue icon to represent) to go with my V1 (turned off here). Defensive strategy to preserve the license. The fade towards the top of the screen is due to refresh rate and shutter speed. IRL it appears normal edge to edge.

In case anyone else here was stupid enough to pay for CarPlay before the "freebies for all!" announcement, I was just refunded the $300 today that I'd paid back in October of last year.
I sent a support note saying that I'd paid just prior to the announcement and requesting a refund, they responded w/in a day, got an email about 2 weeks ago, and refund hit today FWIW |

For those that use Apple iOS beta program. Don’t update to 13.4. Screws up CarPlay. I can’t control Spotify or downcast via car. Have to use my phone.

BMW has stopped the subscription service as of last year so CarPlay will not be no additional cost to us. Theres a pretty strong rumor that Android Auto will be added in the later half of H1 this year as well which i'm excited for.

Hi Folks,
Is there a helpful CarPlay video that shows how to make the best use of CP in the M2 (or the 2-series in general)..? I've paid for CP but switched it off 2 years ago as it was painful to use and the iDrive system worked much better. The M2 has since had a couple of firmware updates and I'm wondering whether it is worthwhile rolling the dice on this again. I've done a search of this thread and there doesn't seem to be that kind of material: I've also done a general YouTube search, but there's a lot of "noise" and not a lot of useful material that I've managed to locate - so was wondering if anyone's come across something that was genuinely useful. Seems a shame to have paid for this (in my case AUD$640) and not be able to obtain any benefit from it. Thanks folks! |

"Rolling the dice?" I don't understand. You've already paid for it. Literally takes 10 seconds to turn CarPlay back on and try with no additional effort or lasting effects. Switch it back off if you don't like it. No rolling of the dice required.

Until I experienced this myself, I couldn't understand why some folks passionately hated CarPlay. I was relieved when I turned it off, and I've not bothered for a couple of years, mostly as the internal system is so good. And my experience wasn't that it was an extension of my iPhone: I've had about 6 iPhones now, and all (bar the iPhone 5) were solid/reliable handsets that gave me very little trouble. Apple CarPlay was garbage, but as some folks find it useful, I thought that I'd ask as usually there is good advice available via the forum:
If there's not a useful video, no problem to keep going with the internal system Cheers, |

2018 M2 + CarPlay
I've been trying to figure out the CarPlay situation for 2018 M2's. Do I have to pay the $300 for CarPlay or is it free?
In addition, when I try and check availability for my car, it says it is not available. Any advice would be welcome. |
