I can't imagine the safety features being pulled. I'd be surprised if they could sell without them in the US.
Edit: nevermind - the U.S. mandates that new vehicles have the following safety tools as standard equipment: safety belts, a LATCH child safety seat system, electronic stability control, and front airbags. |

In fact, you don't get those safety features if you don't opt for the Executive Package in the US. What sucks is that confirms it probably won't have the camera next to rear-view mirror, so you can't code in "Anti-Dazzle" high-beams. Another strike for the CS |

Honestly, as the day goes by I'm having a hard time waiting for the CS and have thought about getting the M2C right now.

I'm still the opposite. The more I think about it the more I want the CS. Adaptive suspension, Merino leather, and low production, are a large draws to me. I'll also put a lot of weight on the initial driving reviews. Dollar for dollar there isn't much of a premium over a C with same upgrades. Most are unnecessary in my opinion, but it's not a horrible buy in my view.

I'm a tech junky, that's why I'm drawn to BMW as a whole; an STI or Lancer Evolution X would of worked for me, if it wasn't about the creature comforts. |

Ouch, the CS is going to fail on tech. At least from the perspective of creature comforts. I'm hoping that the adaptive suspension combined with the e-diff is going to provide a bit of tech magic and wow factor.

Same with the M4 GTS which has the same engine as the OG M3/M4 albeit running a higher tune married with water injection technology. BMW didn't put M mirrors and M seats on the OG M2 but they were included in the Competition because they 'listen to their customers'. I am quite confident that the S58 will be the choice of engine for the G87 M2 though running a lower performance tune. The Competition will come with more aggressive tuning and the CS even further up. |

But okay, forget the base model. How is the competition model g87 b58 going to be rated at more hp and torque than the detuned s58 in the f87 m2c? They may want to use the b58 in the g87, but it might not fit the pattern of better than the last. If they're going to develop the b58 for the base model and the s58 for competition and cs/csl they might as well go s58 all the way. They could sell the b58 if it was coming with the new M xdrive and diff to match, but it doesn't. |

Don’t forget that we will be in uncharted territory with the G series M2. Will it debut with a base and a Comp? Or will the Comp come later, or not at all? Will we get a CS and CSL? Or some of those models but not all of them? What they plan to do with the lineup will have a big impact on whether or not we see the S58 across the entire range, whatever that ends up being, at least in my opinion.

All this talk about the next M2 has me thinking, have we even seen spy shots of the next 2-series yet?
I remember seeing F8X spy shots like 2 years before the E92 went out of production. |

As we've seen with the CS carbon fiber doesn't make a CSL. It has to begin with the initial architecture so that there is a clear plan initially on how to remove weight. Manufacturers can no longer skimp on safety to reduce weight. So we will likely see CSL models in the next generation of 2/3/4 series. |

I would hazard a guess that we will see all 4 variants in the M3/4 before we see that level of options in the M2 range.

Agreed with this. CSL will come to G Series M4 before G Series M2. It may be 2025 or so before G Series M2 comes out since G Series M2 base won't be here until 2023.

Exactly, the debut of the next gen M2 is years away. A lot of water will go under the bridge before its release both at BMW and other manufacturers. I think the next M2 will be bigger, heavier and need more power that the OG M2 to accomplish the same performance.
