US spec car in another country - how to get maps to work?
Hi guys!
I'll be accepting my M2C next month. It's US spec but I'm physically located in Korea. I've been told that maps won't work for obvious reasons. Am I able to load a Korean map set and have it work still? What would I have to do in order to get it to work? Thanks in advance! |

You should be able to get the local map and download it in place of US maps.
You can ask your dealer or send a PM to Shawnsheridan and he could steer you towards a download source if you want to go that route.

I think that only works for us in North America. He needs one for Korea.

Pretty sure that part of ED, they supply or will rent you a Garmin with Euro maps on it. Or, people just use their phones.

Nope.
It is probably possible to re-code the nav, but then you'll have to buy/license the Asia maps (requires a dealer to help license)... and then undo the whole process when/if you bring it back to the US. Talk to someone like oem navigations (dot com) maybe?

For ED, BMW provides euro maps on a USB drive and plugs it into the USB port inside the center armrest. You get to use the factory sat nav with the euro maps. With that said, I do not know how to get maps for Korea. Maybe check with BMW Korea?

Given that - one of the cheap websites that sell map data might be all you need. Or try a BMW dealer, but it will cost 3-5x more...

I took delivery of a US spec M2 in Korea earlier this year. I just sent you a PM, but you will NOT be able to have working maps in Korea. And from previous experiences with other service members who have tried, they had serious issues having the iDrive reprogrammed when they got back stateside. Euro deliveries don't have working maps either if it is a US spec vehicle.

Nope not off topic at all, as I think maps in Europe too are still related.
After speaking with 60HawkDriver83 who also took delivery of a US spec car in Korea it looks like it might be out of reach. Apple car play, maps, bmw apps, etc. all don't work here, and apparently dealerships can't help. Or maybe it voids a warranty I'm not 100% sure. Either way, I'm here for awhile so I wouldn't mind a hard code to get it to work and then figure it out later when I get back to the US on how to revert. We'll see when the car comes. |

https://m.blog.naver.com/PostView.nh....google.com%2F https://m.blog.naver.com/PostView.nh....google.com%2F If you can’t read Korean, there is an aftermarket nav unit that can be made to work alongside idrive. Long press menu button to switch to the aftermarket nav, and two short presses to switch back to idrive. Last edited by 300f87; 08-06-2018 at 08:30 PM.. |
