Alex is the most tech savvy of the cannon ballers - and once held the NYC to Cali record at under 33 hours. He did that back when Valentine was the only real game in town.

He wrote a big article for the drive pretty recently about his current detector of choice the 360.

Alex Roy also uses a whole shitton of tech that he can't talk about because it's illegal for him to use, or tech that costs way too much for the average person (night vision systems, etc).

He's got knowledge and experience, but take him with about a cup and a half of salt. He just uses stuff, and he uses a whole bunch of stuff in combination, so his needs may not necessarily be the same as the average driver.

VortexRadar is a member of a website full of people (rdforum.org) who nerd out over setting up test courses and validating manufacturer claims. It's literally a hobby for some people, and like everything, there are people who take it to extremes. (I mildly dabble in it myself, which is how I know any of this stuff.)

If you weren't doing band segmentation on Ka band, you were not fully using it to its potential. (That said, I'm not 100% sure if the 360 has Ka segmentation.)

Vortex's site and guides are incredibly helpful, even moreso on the V1 which is confusing as hell to setup if you don't have the Bluetooth module.

First let me say thanks for pointing out the Vortex tutorials, they are very good and I picked up a couple of tips. For any interested, look here:

https://www.vortexradar.com/radar-detector-tutorials/

The Escort Max 360 doesn't support band segmentation. This isn't necessarily a bad thing due to the speed at which this detector can scan and parse.

As mentioned, I did do a FW update on my Max 360 a little while ago and this seems to have helped. Have not done any long distance trips but I may experiment with turning off TSR to see if this helps if I experience future issues.

Where did you install it, and can post a picture where you installed it on your dash?

Thanks man!

Not sure who you directed this to. You have @m2ruder quoted but this follows my post.

I doubt you want to see this mounted in my Taco and my M2 arrived in the US yesterday (just showed up this AM for the first time on Connected - yea!) so I can't show you in the M2 yet - sorry.

Initially I plan to just use the sticky cup mount and place just below the mirror while I figure things out. In my 1er I used a blend mount under the mirror. This worked well but I don't really like the visibility loss (same for sticky cup).

I'm thinking about integrating with the mirror (https://www.radar-mirror.com) but that still leaves the need to mount the receiver somewhere. Looking at options for this. Might be able to design and 3D print a replacement for the casing around the 3rd brake light that would house the unit.

Still thinking...

All fair. When I'm between two options I typically default to seeing if he (or another expert I think is intelligent) has a recommendation. I'd describe myself as a well versed novice, guys like that have forgotten more shit than I'll ever know.

I also - as an amateur - consider things like ease of use, looks, etc that don't matter to everyone.

^^ I consider myself pretty deep-in on the ECM stuff, and even I hold some value in aesthetics and ease of use. If the countermeasures are beeping for no reason, or are ugly as hell, I don't want to use that garbage, even if it is "better" than the alternative by the thinnest of short and curlies.

That's why I've been waiting for the solution I want to be available... it's going to cost me a bit more than a couple other options, but given that it should be in the car for 4+ years and will probably save me from multiple tickets over that time, I consider it an investment to keep my insurance rate sane.
