Blackstone Oil Report Sharing

Sorry if this is elsewhere already, but I didn't see it.

I don't have my car yet, but I plan on sending off the oil to Blackstone at each oil change. I figured it might be a cool idea to compare and discuss results here.

Has anyone got any data to share yet?

How does that work, exactly? Do you just save some oil from the change, bottle it up and send it somewhere? Is it engine oil only, or also tranny or diff?

That's exactly how it works. They send you a bottle and a little absorbent towel, you put in a sample, then send it back. I think it's about $28 now.

And they do tranny and diff oil analysis as well.

Here's my report from this year. They noted aluminum levels and figured I'd share

- I know the car didn't get much use this summer
- Yes, I'm aware the car can be driven in inclement weather, but I choose to put it away for the winter
- Last, some don't think oil reports are worth the money but I've spent $28 on a lot worse haha

I'm just picturing the look I'd get if I tried to bring up oil test results as a conversational topic either at home or in company...

Thanks guys. Good data and info. It slipped my mind to send my recent oil for analysis.

Would be a great thread to continue to add to w/results from members' oil service.

I have 4,100 miles on my M2 and I'll be coming up on my third change. Will post results!

Got a "quite good" report from Blackstone after 15k miles and 3 track days.
I have an independent shop do oil changes 5k after each dealer 10k oil service.
The independent shop catches a little oil in the Blackstone container for analysis.

I added LiquiMoly Ceratec at about 17.5k miles, so it was in the engine for only 2.5k miles before the 20k dealer service.
Will be interesting to see what Blackstone says when I do the 25k voluntary oil change.

(Note: always synthetic oil.)

Here's the report from my 2017. Oil was changed before offered as CPO when I bought it last summer with 10K miles. First oil change in my possession. I will change oil every 5K and probably get a Blackstone analysis every 10K.

I've never done a long interval oil change in my life, but I'm willing to feel this out. The previous owner had an oil change done at the dealer just before I bought it. I assumed it was 0w-40, but now realize it may be 0w30. I'm going to keep doing the recommended interval as long as the results keep coming back positive, but I am trying the Liqui Moly Leichtlauf 5w40 this time. Sorry my scanner sucks.

Here's my latest. Pandemic really cut my mileage down, only 1856 miles between Jan 2020 and May 2021. Funny that the report mentions idling -- I never bought a battery tender and ended up starting/running the car in the garage every couple weeks. Didn't even put the snow tires on so it never left the garage.

Here is mine! that was with 0W30 BMW LL01-FE oil. I'm curious I see lots of LL01-FE oil reports on here, it looks like most of the time it is a bit thin? Does that worry anyone? I don't want to start up the great oil debate lots of other threads addressing that haha, but I guess people that posted BMW oils are you guys still running BMW oil? I switched to Liquimoly 5w-30 ll01 now hoping to do an analysis and see where the viscosity lines out to be.

First time post, been trolling for years. Thought I'd share a higher mileage oil sample. Daily car all year. 2 track days at Road America early on in the miles. Changed oil before track days, other than that just had bmw do it with the regular service.

Some notes:

10/2020 - Last sample with BMW Oil
9/2021 - Mostly out of state highway driving
2/2022 - Also some out of state driving

Mention the out of state driving as normally 100% of gasoline used is Shell. Not always available or convenient along the interstate. Not sure if that is the main factor for some increases.

I will likely not be following the guidance to do 11k

Also, no rhyme or reason to using liqui moly, but seems to be going well

Good stuff, surprised I'm just finding this thread.

RLI Bio-Syn 5w-40. Car sees between 5-10 track days between changes. First sample is OEM oil

Here are two of mine (I didn't do it for all of them, since I barely drove during the pandemic). This is on 0W-30 BMW oil (83212365950).

I'm really interested in the lead on some of these UOAs. I've had as high as 7 (likely due to octane additives at track)

It's strange how some N55s will show 0 lead across their whole lifespan and yet some of us get 1-4 PPM regularly.

Does anyone have an idea there?

Here's another RLI Bio-Syn 5w-40.

6 track days on the oil. Again a bit of lead but overall, not too shabby
