BMW M2 is better than 1M OVER WHELMING EVIDENCE

I think its so comical, to see how the 1m owners keep trying to prove to them selves that there car is better than the m2. There is so much evidence that your run is over, and has been for a while. I remember with in 10 min of driving the 1m there were problems with the 1m, not being able to put the power down in a sharp turn, wheel base is to short. 1m sometimes not predictable.
So as brought up earlier, if i see a 1m on the road when iam in my m2 i will just laugh under my breath, knowing the m2 is a much better car.

Sorry but this thing is a puff piece. Not particularly analytical. Yeah it's a great car but apparently everything is these days, let's get some critical analysis. And this whole "wow its a maniac on the track but SO civil on the street" rhetoric is exhausting. Very common these days yet always poured over.
Well what do you expect?
The reviewer got an hour on the road and half an hour on the track.
Just enough for a first impression.

Looking forward to M2/M3/M4 comparisons.
We'll see if BMW M is heading in the right direction again.

He is rumoured to be reviewing it for the new Top Gear TV programme in the UK, he may be the guest reviewer in the magazine or they may stick to one of their normal journalists.

Expect his review to be somewhat different to the 'launch' review.

Just because you consider the M3/M4 as " missing the mark" doesn't mean all the cars are.

The 1M clearly had better reviews than the M2 was a turbo car that came out BEFORE the f8x M3 and M4 so that doesn't make the M2 " closest to success " it makes the M2 a followup to success

As far as I am concerned, a serious weight reduction and size reduction to get the current M3 from being a 5 series and the current m5 from being a 7 series is what's needed

The simple reason that reviewers say the M2 is more fun is because it's not such a big car !
Size reduction will never happen IMO

BMW's biggest problem is the nomenclature and taxonomy of its models.

1 series is the smallest number and the smallest car. Because of this it is the entry level model and people generally don't understand RWD at this price point, hence selling out and going FWD.

The 1er is not small though and is the lowest number unless they wish to venture to a Zero series or some other naming/classification structure we're stuck with bigger and bigger cars.

In 20 years time how big will the smallest M car be?

It might have been better to stop the odd four door even two door naming and make each series a different size - merge current 1er into 2 series.

I hope they think very carefully when they name the i cars

Really?

It's not about the 1M being "better," it's about the car's ability to achieve an emotional connection with the driver. The fact that it can be challenging to drive actually appeals to some. Not everyone wants to be spoon fed.

Only one 1M around Halifax... have yet to see it (unfortunately). Would definitely give a friendly wave - save the glares for Audi

Does the M2 use the same turbo as the N55 in 335/135?

M2
Owners will get a thumbs up from me ....!

And I expect several back, after all I've helped several people to stay the course so that they actually get an M2 , with this crazy rollout.

1M and M2 owners are much more like brothers than M3/M4 owners as we favor the smaller, more nimble package over the GT car that the M3 and M4 have become

So the first thing you'll think when you see another M owner is that you're car is better?

I mean, I think the M2 sounds better than the F80/82. I would NEVER bring that up to an M3/4 owner. Like, who cares? F80/82 is better at other things. There's no reason to fight over our cars, they're all beasts in their own right.

So when I see a 1M, M3, M4, nothing but thumbs ups, they're all so awesome.

Like, dude, in the end, no one cares that you drive an M2 besides you, so it's not worth thinking this way.

EDIT: Quoted the wrong person. Classic.

I believe you're viewing this with a closed mind and posting as such; do you really believe that M2 isn't drawing on the success of the 1M?

Enjoy your M2, as you should, but to laugh at 1M owners would only exude a lack of class and decorum. We're all car people here, act like it.

What is this automotive journalist smoking? I wonder whose incompetence is to blame for this error, the journalist or BMW.
Maybe I'm not getting your point, but what's the problem with that statement?

The M2, like many other turbo cars, have an overboost function that increase midrange power output for a limited amount of time. So, since it's just a temporary/limited function, it's not stated as the engines std power/torque output. But often quoted as an increased torque level during overboost.

The M2 apparently is mapped to allow overboost for maximum 30 seconds at a time.

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicle...m/engines.html

Quote:
The result: a peak performance of 272 kW (370 hp) and a maximum torque of 465 Nm, plus 35 Nm with the aid of the Overboost function, between 1,350 and 4,500 rpm.

One other recent performance car with overboost, the Focus ST which has 15s of overboost (the new Focus RS also has overboost, but now for for 20s segments)

https://media.ford.com/content/fordm...bo-engine.html

Quote:
Ford Focus ST Features Factory ‘Overboost’ Turbo Engine
Ford Focus ST increases acceleration through factory “overboost” turbo feature that extends torque curve from 3,000 rpm to 4,500 rpm for up to 15 seconds.

The new Ford Focus ST features a four-cylinder, direct-injected turbocharged engine with an “overboost” feature that extends peak torque for up to 15 seconds at a time.

The gains extend the peak torque from 3,000 rpm to 4,500 rpm, whereas other EcoBoost ® engines would hit peak torque and begin to drop off at these higher engine speeds. This is the first overboosted Ford EcoBoost engine sold in North America.

Ford engineers made sure the overclocked EcoBoost 2.0-liter would have a very robust cooling system. “The turbo itself is specified for sustained, high-output performance, but they’ve programmed the car’s computer to dial in more boost past 3,000 rpm to give it that extra something,” says engineer Lisa Schoder, who is Marketing manager for Focus ST.

“We limit peak turbo boost to maintain a wide margin of safety and durability over the life of the car,” Schoder adds. “But overboost is cool in that it tweaks more acceleration through the turbo for brief periods for performance-hungry drivers.”
